Saw this mentioned in another thread and am curious.  Just got my Valk from Christ Rider last month (Hi Woody) down in Anna, Tx.  I tried looking up the date on the calender by all I get are blank pages.  When and where will this be held?  From the name I assume it's about working on bikes, is that correct?  Are there specific scheduled things that will be shown or taught or is a kind of free for all on the topics?  Hope I'm not misunderstanding this. uglystupid2

Mike, we tentatively planned for a Wrench Party on Feb 15, but there's a conflict with that date, so it will probably shift a week before or after.

There's rarely an agenda -- people let us know what they want to do and we work together to get stuff done.  I know at this upcoming one, there are two folk that need to service the rear drive, Yoda Master (JC) and Ridergroups (Kevin.)  That's about two hours of work on each after factoring in stripping off saddlebags and accounting for jaw flapping.

I've needed to do a fork rebuild on one of my bikes for a long time, but haven't gotten around to it at a wrench party yet.

I also need to replace the shifter seals on both my bikes, but that's a quick and easy changeout.

The upcoming WP is planned for my house, which is Corinth, just southwest of Denton.  Address given by PM or e-mail only.

I hope you'll be able to make it when we finalize the date.

I could use a hand doing fork seals sometime also, r/h has been seeping ever so slightly for quite a while, guess I need to get that stuff ordered. Want to just do the seals , no springs and all that, may be able to do them in the trees. don't I just need the #21 2ea and 2ea of the #8,9,&10?

Next final drive service, want to do the supervalk mod, as little riding as I have been getting in I may have to do it just cause. I think I have 2k or so to go..

Ben,

We have had wrench parties ranging from around early morning until late in the afternoon. It all depends on how much work needs to be done. The host of the wrench party will usually let people know what time to arrive. If all the work gets done, an afternoon ride is not out of the question. Send ValkPilot a PM so that he can send you his home address if you think you can make the wrench party. As for me I'm supposed to be off on the 8th. I will let everyone know if things change.    Smiley

How does Saturday, February 8 work for everyone?

We can also do it on Saturday the 22nd.

Chime in with a prefernce, please.

Either day, we'll start at 9 am and go until finished.

If we finish early, ride to lunch and beyond.

I don't want to speak for Valkpilot, but the final drive can be looked at on the 8th or the 22nd.   Smiley

If I drive over, the 8th works better for me but I won't have a dog in the hunt in terms of wrenching.  I'd be there for help and moral support.

I think I could do the 8th or 22nd as long as I don't have a MSF class to coach.

It looks like the 22nd gets the nod, so let's plan on that.

Holler out what you need done.

Tire work takes a garage bay out of play, otherwise we can easily work on two bikes at a time inside the garage and several more in the driveway.

If possible, I'd like to try to reseat one of my fork seals thats leaking after a fork rebuild.  Other than that, I don't think I have any major things that need looked at other than regular minor maintenance.

Well as usual, I can supply heaters & tequila. In the meantime I need a troubleshoot on horn wire. Keeps blowing fuses. Already traced it back. No pinched or frayed wires. I'll pvt PM for a quick get together.

You'd mentioned wanting to do a teardown on the I/S rear end. Gonna have time for that or another 'special session'?

Would you guys mind if a rider from SA crashed your wrench party? I can supply the brewskis. I need help with my rear end maintenance and also some assistance with my carbs. I am ordering some new slow jets so would like some assistance installing them.

Thanks a lot!

Of course you're welcome to come.  We can probably handle the rear drive service.  Carb work is a little ambitious for this one, I think, and I'd hesitate to get into them with you so far from home.

I've got to ask, why do you think you need to rejet?

Those of you contemplating a rear drive service at this WP should get some replacement o-rings for the final drive. Redeye used to sell a pack of 5 sets for $12 of neoprene (OEM material) rings, but I see that he has switched to a single-set package containing more durable polyurethane rings.  I just ordered a couple of sets of these: http://redeye.ecrater.com/p/18218041/final-drive-o-rings-for-valkyrie-polyurethane   We also have some of the old style in the DFW football.  For a $5 contribution to the treasury, you can buy a set from our stock.

If you're new to the Valk, you should also have a pack of intake tube o-rings around.  Eventually the stock ones, or the replacements that are in there now, will start to leak.  Many have chased poor idle and stumbling acceleration issues thinking they had clogged carb jets, when what they really had was vacuum leaks.  If you've got brownish goo around the bottom of your intake tubes now, you're due.  These are better than stock: http://redeye.ecrater.com/p/2064055/intake-o-ring-kit-viton-gf

Finally, new Valk owners should be checking vacuum lines and caps for cracking and sponginess.  We've got plenty of high-quality silcone vacuum line in the football, and we make our own vacuum caps using short pieces of line, self-tapping screws, and RTV silicone, so buying those in advance of a wrench party is not necessary.  But, you should consider eventually de-smogging your bike and Redeye has kits for that too: http://redeye.ecrater.com/c/1086125/desmog-heat-shield  The "shiny" kit is pretty much plug & play, the "stealth" kit can be P&P, but to do it right requires extra work to get it done.

Thanks Valkpilot. I should be arriving in Arlington on Thursday to visit my brother and this gives me an excellent opportunity to meet some of my fellow Valk riders up and around the DFW area.
With regards to the carbs, I might be just getting paranoid, maybe it's nothing at all. It would be nice if some of you knowledgeable guys lend your ears/eyes and give me your thoughts.
Already have the O-ring set for the final drive, intake tube o-rings, and some guard dog moly.

It's been suggested to me that I clarify what our wrench parties are about, namely, they're about helping the owner do the work, assisted by those with what passes for expertise in our modest group, and hindered by the layabouts and hecklers.

So, come prepared to bust knuckles and get greasy.
