Sorry. I know, I know. Pretty sure I'm gonna buy the Shiny kit. I've read a ton of desmog threads and I don't think I like the idea of hammering a freeze plug into my engine block or using JB Weld. I've read the desmog articles in ShopTalk including the QueXpress article, looked at the $65 kit from Daryl's site and looked at the Shiny kit ($45)....but what I don't know, are there other desmog kits available from anyone else, or is it narrowed down to the Shiny kit, XF6 kit, or the do-it-yourself method? If that's all that's available, I'm going with the Shiny kit.

It's your money and time. The end result is the same. Some with less work and parts involved. Only another valk rider will noticed what method you chose. Good luck.

I did it the quexpress way... you can't see the JB weld in the top plugs, or how well you were able to stay in the lines on the botton plugs... I think the freeze plugs look cool, but I didn't want to hammer one in either... -Mike

Good morning Jeff! It appears you have Kury intake/plug chrome covers, if so, you will need to do some shimming (washers) in a few spots to keep everything in the same plane when using the shiny desmog kit. I used the shiny desmog and preferred it over the others available.

There is really no pressure to mention at the ports you are talking about so hammering is unnecessary.
You could leave the chrome parts there and cut off the tubes flush and plug them there with anything available
Same on the bottom! Just cut the tubes, leaving enough to crimp or fold-over.
All the fuss about using extreme measures to stop them up is ill placed.
Some have simply glued a nickel on the top. It's really nothing to get all worked up over.
If you run the engine with the ports left open, you'll see what I mean.

I did the shiney kit but all things said we are trying to stop vacuum leaks. In reality you only need to remove the 2 Pair valves and cap the 6 tubes, that way no plugging the actual ports. And all the chrome tubes still stay stock looking. Then cap 5 intake runners with Viton vac caps, and using a new line from the #6 intake runner to the petcock. Also make sure the 2 #6 hoses are connected to the upper vent rails on right and left sides. Simple is as simple does Tony

I liked the Shiny kit BF. Easy to do and it looks professional FWIW. But then again, my previous posts in other threads on that started a Sh**storm. I like easy, I like professional appearance. And squeezing a tube of JB Weld is not my preference. Just my .02.

Squeezing a tube of JB Weld looks like... OEM. -Mike
