I too have exactly the same problem and I'm a size 13....i ended up replacing the heat shield...now I'm very very careful when i put the kickstand down, but on occasion I still get boot melt..so I use mother's to clean it off as soon as the pipe cools down...it's a design problem w/ the kickstand..I'm thinking about extending the kickstand bar out a bit...I also did think about putting a piece over it like you did...it's frustrating! Angry

I Keep melting my boot on my Exhaust! Any Suggestions?

I did some research to see if I could find some chrome exhaust shield that I could clamp on.  I could not find anything that looked like it would work.  I am about to the point of getting black exhaust wrap and metal zip ties and wrapping 6 to 8 inches of pipe on both sides were my boots could contact.  Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you remedy the issue.
Thanks

I try to keep my foot further up the peg..towards the front of the bike cooldude
Well after I noticed I had melted my boot the first time I have made a conchies effort to keep my boots clear of the pipes but when I am just enjoying the ride I find my heals naturally make it back to the pipes.  So since it seams this will continue to be issue for me any thoughts on about a shield or wrap idea? ???

Quit buying those rubberized boots.

Get REAL leather ones.

Actually, you need to spread your legs farther apart when ya get ready to get off.

This is a real problem for anyone who has never ridden this big of a wide engine bike.   I had ridden a BMW Boxer for awhile before I got my Harley and then the Valkyrie.    The Boxer with the jugs sticking way out to the side, I got used to not touching the cylinders.    Really, it is just a matter of what ya get used to.

Maybe a better pair of boots. I have never melted my boot on the exhaust, dont know if I have ever touched it or not. Maybe my boots are heat resistant and keeps them from melting? I usually wear my red wings when I ride.
I was thinking the same thing. I seem to always get a little boot on my (absolutely stock) exhaust pipes during a ride. But different boots make a difference. I am wearing Bates composite toed side zip boots and they seem to have a little higher melting point......I guess.

I do it all the time when putting the kickstand down not as much as I used too I learned it sucks to clean off. 0000 steel wool and some effort takes it off.
Oven cleaner (Easy Off) makes it easy to remove these marks. Put some on a rag, spread on boot mark and wait a few minutes. Wipe off and clean with water. Done!

Softer soles melt easier when putting the kickstand down if you aren't careful.

Comes off okay with fine steel wool, as someone else mentioned.

Try Goo-Off it will take the black off your pipes.

My wife got her boots on the exhaust every once in awhile.

Used good old Easy Off.    Worked like a champ.

Put the Vikings on and that ended the boot marks for some strange reason.

Go barefoot, it won't take ya long to learn to keep your feet off the pipe.

I do the same thing from time to time, Until you find a solution , Just heat the exhaust up spray it with oven cleaner and wipe it off, It comes off easy and no damage to pipes.

Looks like that exhaust is running hot;  this happened to me when my carbs were clogged up and  running lean.    I used chrome polish to get the marks off, and finally got the mixture to where it belonged...
I actually rest my heel on that shield plate on long rides, just the right position for my bad ankle.
