I was finally able to take the inner fairings off after having a couple of the brass nut inserts come out with the screws. ( Will epoxy them back in ) Not sure what else needs to come off to remove the windshield. I don't want to get too physical with a 15 year old bike and start breaking things. Anybody have a step by step procedure?

Once you get the inner fairings off there are a couple nuts don't remember how many that hold the chrome piece on the front and it will come off. Just don't over tighten the nuts when you put the chrome piece back on they will crack pretty easy.

On the back side of the chrome strip is 2 Phillips head screws. Once you get that chrome strip removed there are 4 fasteners holding the windshield on. Super glue or epoxy those brass ferrules back in being careful to NOT get any adhesive into the threads. After you glue/epoxy those ferrules in let them set up for a good long time. Anti seize all the fasteners when you reassemble. RIDE SAFE.

I can't remember where I got this, possibly Carl Kulow's page...you only need up to step 4.

Remove the faring:

4-screws on each speaker panel...
1-screw, each side, at top of gauge panel after speaker panel is removed...
2-screws, each side, holding the chrome trim inside fairing under the windshield...
4-8mm bolts holding the windshield on...
2-10mm bolts holding the vent scoop no need to remove...
2-sheet metal screws at the top after windshield is removed...
2-10mm nuts on turn-signal stay behind the speaker panels...

Bend back the wire stay in front of gauges to free wire harness going to headlights...
Now fairing and headlights will rotate down to the front fender...

Disconnect wiring harness to remove fairing completely from bike...

If any of the screws spin but don't loosen, just pry behind them while turning and the notorious
"Pem Nuts" will come out of the fairing.  You will need to epoxy them back in place before you re-install.
