I was doing a craigslist  search in a 500 mile area when found a single line add.
99 valk less than 6000 miles, needs work make offer.
Contacted the guy and was sent some pictures but the quality was poor,  I made the deal anyway.
$2500 for the bike, picked  it up yesterday going to need some work. Last inspection date was 2004.
Tank and fenders are in great shape but the chrome has small pits on it everywhere.
If anybody has advice on how to clean it up that would be great. Also will be looking for OEM exhaust system to replace the cobras and the engine guard is in to bad of shape and will need to be replaced.

Good deal.
Pitted parts can be replaced by used parts off ebay, and you can resell your parts at slightly less than the parts you'll replace in our VRCC classifieds.

Yeah, nice color find too, . Try some Turtle wax Chrome polish / rust remover, from wallyword or any parts store. Its cheap and works . If you have never used it , I think you will be surprised how much it can bring back chrome. Chrome only though, don't get it on any paint or aluminum, Im in the process with a 97 that was just about a goner....

You stole it! Congrats! My 98 had some pitting and rust however most of the chrome cleaned up with Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish. This bike was on the Oregon Coast for 12 years before I got it. I had to rechrome some parts as well. I love the color of your bike. My 97 is a purple/white also one of my favorite Valk colors. Welcome to asylum.  Smiley

I new the bike was not going to start , have to pull the carbs. Someone posted a great YouTube video of this job on VRCC .

I will check out the turtle wax and I have some mothers around here I will try. Thanks for the advice.

Love Surf City Killer Chrome but its not helping with the pitting and rust.

If it were me I would;

Check air filter
Oil change
Pull gas tank and douche out, look for rust, check screen filter.
Plugs
Carbs
Check Petcock operation
Rear end service; inspection, change fluid, o rings, thrust washer, moly paste

Search feature is your friend, along with "shop talk"...
