While not a stranger to the Florida rains, my rain gauge overflowed at 8" in 3 hours. My manicured back yard looks like a riverbed, what was my garden is now a box of mangled greens. We have not had this volume of rain here in many years. What a mess! To make this Valkyrie related, I ordered an Ultimate seat Thursday and should expect it Monday. Thanks to Bert for allowing me to test his. While I had gotten used to my stock seat, the Ultimate hopefully will add a little more long distance comfort. James

NPR did not get what you got. It was intense for a little while.
Keeping it Valk related, what was your old seat?

What you got was nothing compared to what we got here in the Panhandle.

We did not get that much, but we got too much.
That new sump pump I installed last fall was one of my better recent investments.
Coming on every 12-15 seconds for hours and hours; sounded like an underground river filling the sump hole.
One of two main storm drains on my corner lot backed up. Called VDOT for repair. It is amazing how prompt your service is when you tell them.... BTW, my corner is the main bus stop in the whole area. Some of those kids are so tiny, they could wash right down that storm drain.
FL does not have (many) basements. I have one (nicely finished main living room), and would be better off without one.

We got some good rain here in Orlando too, but only about 2.5" here in Apopka over the last 3 days. Made the lawn nice and green, which means I'll have to mow it more...Damn that rain!! We have basements here also Jess, we call them swimming pools.

I had a similar situation in my basement shortly after I moved in. An expensive and nasty French drain install stopped that. Nothing like two jackhammers running in your (finished) basement, and hand digging down to your footers for an unholy indoor mess. Now the swimming pool is down at the bottom of the yard (during hard rains). You have sand, we have clay. The ducks like it.

97F here today; 19% relative humidity. No rain in sight. Fires will be here soon. It is 7:25 PM and 88F inside the house. BTW, yesterday I took a glorious ride over the Tujunga Canyon Road. 100F/-40 MPH average speed. Then on return I took the slab and before I woke up I was clokin' 105 MPH. This thin' Rocks! A TOTAL BRAIN-FLOSS-RIDE!

Ya'll just think you had some rain. This is what 26 plus inches of rain in one night can do.

The other day I posted a "Weird weather" thread relative to what you are showing. I was quickly told that that kind of weather is not weird... that it is really the norm for this time of the year. ??? So, is it really this sort of weather normal by your neck of the woods?

So far this year, we've had our bridges freeze over......IN FLORIDA. In my sixty years here, that's NEVER happened before....ever. It's an understatement to say that we don't know how to drive on ice. Last week, and depending on which weather service you ask, and where you were standing, we've had anywhere from 10 to over 26 inches of rain......all in ONE NIGHT. That's more than the last several hurricanes combined. Yeah, I'd say we've had some abnormal weather this year.

BF, many of us were watching the weather you had in the pan handle. The weather channel reported 38"+ of rain for the one month period in your area. You have had the gamet of weather for sure. Our incident was very localized within a 5 mile radius, including Busch Gardens, University of South Florida, and nearby residential. Most areas only picked up 2"-3" for Friday. Not a common rain event even here. This sand we have offers no base at all for anything and erodes quickly. Jess, I too live on a corner lot and the road has just started to drain through my back yard. A curb on the side street would solve my problem. Your right, not many basements in Florida. The few I have been in were not normal basements, one local man's was a machine shop with an external elevator; he designed the house in the 50's. He built many home built experimental aircraft there. It was much larger than the house itself. I toured and got to know the owner fairly well when I was going to college. After his passing my wife and I watched for several years for the house to be offered for sale but it was kept in his family to this day. Back to the Valkyrie related; my Ultimate King arrived today! Looking forward to a few miles before Inzane. Gil, my other seat was just a stock 98' tourer seat. I had gotten used to it but wanted a little more.

Get a backhoe and put in a shallow drainage ditch down your lot line. You probably want to consult local codes and other sources of legal difficulty before doing so. My brother takes his backhoe down the (forever) abandoned county drainage ditches fronting his rural two lane in MI for he and his neighbors. Everyone floods if they are not cleaned out. Knowing him, he never asked anyone if it was legal, and would do it anyway so why bother asking. His neighbors love him. He's retired, and looks for excuses to run his restored 5-ton dump truck, 3 restored farm tractors with power takeoff post hole diggers (8 and 12") and sawmill, triple mower decks, bushhog, drag rake, harrow, backhoe, 5-ton forklift (will move cars), giant stump grinder, logsplitter, riding mowers, and a pristine old aircraft tug that would probably pull a DC3. And a dozen old outboards. And he makes it all run. And the locals tend to trade services rather than spend money. He used to ride motorcycles, and looks mine over every summer I ride up there, but says he has too many hobbies already.

So do I. He wants me to sell out and move back up there, but no MI Winters (and roads) for me again.
