Hi all...anyone that remembers me will know I have no tech competence and don't pretend to, hence my question. Several years ago I had a Goldwing alternator installed on my 97 Valk which has been great even though the alt cover would no longer fit. Anyway, my trusted mechanic is installing a new clutch and has not been able to remove the GW alternator to install the clutch and has concluded he needs to move the engine as the frame is in the way...I don't remember which shop installed it in the first place but anyone that is running a GW alt on their Valk can you tell me whether it is possible to remove it without moving the engine? Also, it may be an aftermarket alt (think it had the word "fire" in the brand name but not sure) but it was originally meant to fit a GW. !Don't want him continuing to use up time trying to figure out how to get it out if someone knows the answer! And see you in Ashville hopefully!
Thanks, all responses are appreciated!

No Sir Mr. Paint it Black in Toronto, you do not have to move the engine to take the alternator out.

You just have to wiggle and squirm to get it in the right place and it comes right out.

Same for putting it back in.

I think I'd find a new mechanic, one who knows Valkyrie's like Dragbars, LaMonster and etc.

If you lived closer, I'd even change it for ya at my old age.

If I understand your question right, he is just replacing your clutch.   Is this on your Valkyrie or your Harley?

Hey RJ...its the Valk, not the Harley...and not the stock alternator, but the bigger GW alternator that I have on there..does your response still apply to the GW alternator on a VaLK?

The CompuFire alternator was, indeed, larger than the stock unit. Moving it might be necessary.

Normally, alternators are just hard to wiggle in and out... but apparently, if you have
a "compufire" alternator...b

Even if it is the compfire I don't see how it would be in the way to service the clutch. I'ld look around for another mech.
