InZane attendance numbers over the years???

How have the  InZane attendance numbers held up over the years?

Asheville this year has 322+

Is the event growing, or on the decline since InZane 1?

I'm not staff, I came to the party relatively late - got my bike in August '07 and attended my first InZane in '08 - and there are lots of contributing factors to consider, but I'd take a guess that attendance dropped off more in the early years as the Gen 1 Valkyries went from New/Current exciting, to Current/Niche, and has been trending slightly down as they go from Current/Niche to Verging-on-Classic Niche.  

Like many of the hardcore enthusiasts, I'm excited about InZane every year.  

I'm really excited about spending time with everyone in Asheville and riding in one of the best areas on the continent.

I believe most of us would go every year if we could.  It just doesn't always happen.  I think 300+ is a fine turnout for a bike that has been out of production for more than 10 yrs.

I also believe that..........location, Location, LOCATION has a great deal to do with attendance.   But, what do I know...  My first one was Inzane 9 in '08 in Frisco CO.

Sadly, we are nowhere near the attendance niumbers of the early Inzanes when I believe we had around 800 bikes in one of the Marches but that's to be expected with our aging, no longer made bikes.

I think this years 325+ turnout is awesome and I hope all who can make it have a blast!

Seems to me that since my first Inzane, the second one in Johnson City, that the numbers seem to be holding about steady.  300-400, depending on location.

One thing to take into consideration is that the number of people registered will not equal the same number of Valkyries. Many of the spouses will be riding pillion while some will be on their own bike, but it probably will not be a Valk. On the other hand, some SO's will be piloting a Valk too. My guess would be that the number of Valks will be a bit more than half of the number of participants.

This being my 3d Inzane I have no idea what the first couple were like. The owners and the machines get a bit older every year. Can't be helped as that is the way of things. But if you attend and do not have any fun-it's yer own cursed fault.  Looking forward to I-14 as I did 12 and 13.  See ya'll in a couple weeks!!  RIDE SAFE.

Here's a pic from the VOA rally in Montrose, CO in '99.


There were more attendees at the old rallies, but that was only part of it.  There were far more vendors, a few even showed up in 18 wheelers.  There were more customized Valkyries.  Joe Cocker's wife Pam (a rider) catered that rally, and Joe himself handed out some door prizes.

Having the Valkyrie in current production made a difference in the enthusiasm at those old rallies.  That's why I'm excited to see the new Valkyrie and F6B in Honda's lineup.  I think they have the potential to rejuvenate the VRCC.

My personal experience is that beyond 300 the event starts to become impersonal. We have all been to the HD and GW events that were so crowded, you ended up being a number instead of a participant.
Besides, riding in a big 'Gorilla' is fun if you can overlook the lot; most of the time you end up seeing just a couple of bikes in front and behind you. Pretty scary sometimes as well, especially in the back where the harmonica effect kicks in.

The 2 first years are a bit vague (we've learned some lessons along the way).  At InZane 1 & 2, the Honda folks said they counted over 800 as we passed through the plant entrance.  However, that is far more than we counted for our official Guinness record breaking paperwork, which was just under 350 (I don't have the exact number at hand, I think 346 at IZ1).  Despite redoubling our efforts to get every bike counted at IZ2, we had less than the year before (330ish).  The 800 count (meaning about 1200 attendees), simply doesn't make sense from the hotel room and Sat. dinner count.  Based on our bike count, hotel bookings, and the number of ppl served at Sat. dinner,  we've estimated the attendance IZ1 at about 475 and IZ2 at 445.  So with all that said, this is my best calculation for each InZane:
IZ1 -  475 - Zanesville, OH
IZ2 -  445 - Zanesville, OH
IZ3 -  310 - Zanesville, OH (This is why we started moving it around the country)
IZ4 -  436 - Paducah, KY
IZ5 -  296 - Paducah, KY
IZ6 -  526 - Frisco, CO (First year we went West)
IZ7 -  415 - Johnson City, TN
IZ8 -  326 - Johnson City, TN
IZ9 -  318 - Frisco, CO
IZ10 - 515 - Bellaire, MI
IZ11 - 351 - Bellaire, MI
IZ12 - 320 - Eureka Springs, AR
IZ13 - 312 - LaCrosse, WI
IZ14 - 322 (so far) - Asheville, NC

Two years we broke 500 (highlighted) and 1 year we fell below 300.  We seem to be dancing in the low 300s range these days.  As you can see, without fail, each successive year in the same location attendance is lower, which is why we started moving it around.  Seems folks want to see new places... go figger.

Thanks for the updated numbers, Connie.  I must have gotten wind of the Honda count. Seems to me there were videos of the march, possibly Paducah, or the last Zanesville one. Should be able to count the two by twos.

I think it is time to think about changing up the website to welcome and include the new Gen 2 Valkyrie/owners. Add a GEN 2 forum for them. That should attract some new blood.
