Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Black Hills, Badlands, Sturgis.

Glacier, Going to the Sun Road, a must for every motorcyclists, stunning beauty with a fun mountain road tossed in for spice.

Yellowstone, sux big-time if your focus is on the quality of the road.  A 4 for twisties.  A -1 for traffic.  A 10 for geologists who love one farting mudhole after another.  It's a 200-mile figure-8 of ho-hum roads with a buffalo tied to a tree here and there to make you think it's a wildlife paradise.  There is a highlight, the Yellowstone River Falls, powerful and majestic, but who wants to put up with the traffic for that?  Get it on the internet.

Grand Tetons, so you wanted to ride majestic mountanin roads?  Forget it.  It's a 43-mile loop on the flattest roads you can imagine with the Tetons observable only in the distance.  I wanted to ride them.  The US Gov in their infinite wisdom has set it up so you only look at them, not ride them.

So, for my dollar, go to Colorado, like my son and I did in '07.  ALL of the roads in a 200-mile radius of Denver are FANTASTIC! Thank you Misfit for your extraordinary gift of a place to park our truck and trailer.

The high planes can be fun, we ran triple-digits plus with impunity.  126 mph on the gps was max speed.

Sturgis was the same old tired Harley Scene, riders walking their bikes through town and posing for all who would fall for their crap.

Good to be home,
Coot

Looking forward to the day I can take a trip with my sons.  Oldest has no interest but the other two do.
Pretty sure the youngest will have a bike first. When he and I went to the Grand Canyon, we met a father and son going cross country.  He smiled at me and said,"Some day dad, that will be us."  I can't wait.

Glad you had a good trip.

Pick up a "Destination Highways" for Washington and check it out.Northeast Washington has a lot of killer riding,no traffic, rivers and lakes everywhere.

I look forward to the day I can make that trip however it will not be when 500,000 similar minded riders are there.  My lady and I enjoy riding almost anywhere however we restrict such travel to ourselves or maybe two to three other couples.  Waiting in lines, having scenic aspects ruined by a multitude of bodies all attempting to experience the same “solitude” lowers a persons tolerance while raising one’s level of frustrations and is not our ideal way of seeing this country.  Maybe your travel experience would have been more rewarding had you been able to see those areas on your own terms.  I know if you go at some time other than when the Sturgis ride is there it will cost substantially less.

Unless you have to experience that “life style” I believe it’s best to stay away from such large events.  I attempt to stay away from events that have an attendance of more than 20-30K.  Our local Arizona Bike Week draws about 20K total.  We’ve already done all the rides they hold for charity but sometimes we grab one of the route maps just to see if they have put a new twist on an established route.  If they have, we do the ride either the day after the group or after all the visitors have left town.

Come back anytime Coot. You folks are always welcome. A couple of your friends stayed here last night and rolled out this morning. They are expected to return in about ten days to pick up there truck and trailer. I do wish I could have gone with them. Glad to hear you two made it home safe.

Did a trip with one son and son in law three weeks ago. Had just a great time. Toured northeastern WA. Beautiful mountain running, plenty of twists. The damn deer were thicker than flies though. One more trip on my bucket list, another trip with all my sons. My other son couldn't come this time, he might not have been able to keep up with the Valks with his HD anyway. I'll have to slide him off that tractor and put him on a f6.

We only had 2 wks to get out west, see some sights and get back home so I had to decide which direction to go in. Strongly considered something similar to your trip but chose Colorado, the grand canyon and southern Utah but mostly stayed in CO. And loved it! Once in a while I make the right choice.  Smiley  Thanks for sharing.
