We will also pay a visit to Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park. Lot's of great history here. Sherman once said "I will order them to make up a force and go out and follow Forrest to the death, if it cost 10,000 lives and breaks the Treasury. There never will be peace in Tennessee till Forrest is dead." General Sherman to Secretary of War Edwin Stanton.

I should be able to make this one. I've met a few other valkers at some bike nights around here lately, I'll see if I can get some of them interested. It would be an easy morning ride for us, but hanging out at the hotel sounds cool too. I'll see who else I can scrounge up and start making plans. John

Mac I just filled out a " " Upcoming Events "  and sent it to the VRCC staff . When they get time it will be on the VRCC main page.I don't see this going " Blue / Gray " big like we had at Gettysburg in June but I'm thinkin' we'll fill those 20 rooms even with it being a November ride. But on second thought I did'nt figure we'd have around 150 motorcycles show-up for the Blue / Gray ride either  Undecided  Lookin' forward to it this is a special ride for me my Great-Great Grand-Father is buried at Shiloh and this will be the first time I get to vist him.

Shiloh Facts...

Question....What are some unique facts about the battle of shiloh?

Answer....The Confederates assembled 66 artillery guns to fire on the "Hornet's Nest ". This was the largest single use of artillery in North America at that time.

It was a horrible battle. A.S. Johnson pushed Grant and Sherman back to the river, and was himself killed
near the end of the day. The Confederate command passed back to Beauregard who was sick and at the rear,
the Confederate momentum was halted. By the next day the Yankees had the upper hand.

Of course nobody knew then how big of a deal it would have been to Kill or capture Grant and Sherman in 1862.

General Forrest was shot in an attack on Sherman the second day...

Shiloh was bad for Grant's reputation, bad for Forrest's health, and just plain bad for A.S. Johnson. Sherman (that rat)
came out smelling like a rose.

I don't know how many have made motel reservations . Both Mac and I will be at the CBR maybe we can talk some folks into joining us in November. I thought about asking Scott for a sign-up page but he has enough to deal with without me making more work for him. We'll see how many are coming when we get there  cooldude
