For those looking for a bright ass headlight...

I have to confess that I have somewhat of a bright light fetish. I believe one can't have too many ridiculously bright flashlights and I've been on a quest for the brightest cursed headlight and taillight for The Beast that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I've tried various halogen bulbs and even an HID setup (failed prematurely) but I believe I have the new champion of "stupid bright headlight bulb for not much money."

It's an LED bulb with three large surface mount LED's mounted on a triangular core. It has a little fan unit at the back to dissipate the excess heat. Two of the LED's are on for low beam and the third comes on for high beam. The beam is very white but not blue. It throws a strong, very wide, solid beam with no shadows. It's bright enough that even on low beam my son refuses to ride in front of me.  As annoying as that can be for other riders, I like that I'm that visible to cage drivers.

The only negative is that it's a bit of a pain in the ass to get installed into the bucket. It comes with various flanges including the one for H4 bulbs. The challenge is the little fan unit on the back of the bulb makes it difficult to get the clip back on to hold it in place. I had to shorten the metal clip just a tad, bend it and fiddle with it but I finally got it on. Other than that, it's straight plug and play.

The cost is $59.95 and the shipped mine priority mail same day. It arrived in two days.

 I'm interested, especially if its plug 'n play.
I wonder how long that fan will last? If this draws less and runs cooler than halogen why does it need a fan? If you have a pic, please post it.

There is a youtube video of a guy in Holiday on the ADV forums.  He reviews things and presents them well.  I think he rides a FJR.  He point out several issues he had with his.  In short he was not happy with the beam pattern.  That being said I am going to try them for me. 

Grumpy (Bill) has some neat fog/driving LED's that are worth a look at.

How far does it stick out?? Will it work in my IS--That has been my only hesitation

And the fans/heatsinks are for the LEDs which are very temperature sensitive. If they get too hot they will short out and as they heat the light output falls off dramatically.

I have LED bulbs in the front blinker/Running Lights. The name of the place I bought them online escapes me at the moment. I still have to add a load resistor to get rid of the fast blink but they are brighter.
