Pappy's post got me thinking.  I'm talking about the guy that did it before Brian (Swoppie).  I remember Chan, but it wasn't him that put it on.

I don't remember where he worked or if he crashed.  I think the last time I saw him was at the Holiday Inn, not the one on the beach but the other one.
