K&N Air Filter

OK, So after reading a post on the 1800 board about air cleaners I decided to peek in on my K&N. Its been awhile and I was thinking about it recently so after hearing the danger of a neglected dry filter I thought...what a better time, the beginning of a new year.
Tank off (cake with a Pingel) the stuff under the tank was still really clean. Got the filter out and it did feel a tad dry so I just added oil because it looked clean as well. Next time Ill wash it
Tightened up the six hidden intakes and checked on all my under tank wiring. Tank back on and all is well took all of 20 minutes.
Thanks for the tip (encouragement)

My fuel tank is removed each winter, so servicing the K&N filter (cleaning and oiling) is standard procedure, weather it needs it or not. I have had K&N air filters in most of my bikes.

I have a K&N filter on my bike also, but I want to
point out that the OEM filter is a better filtering agent.
It was CA I think that broached the subject of filtering quality.

K&N lets dirt in no doubt about it. even their own testing proves it.
http://www.knfilters.com/efficiency_testing.htm
their own words
"Our actual air filters when tested generally demonstrate a cumulative filtration efficiency of between 96% and 99%."
This is at the end of the test where their filter becomes this efficient wheres, but let in a high % of dirt before it gets to the end.
