I need new rubber for the 1200 project and was looking at some decent prices on ebay for the pair. Problem is, I'm not equiped to do the change and a couple local shops really frowned on doing it if I didn't buy from them. I asked about matching prices and I'd let them do it.....nice try there.  The rear is a 150/90/15, front is 130/90/16. I wanted to go slightly larger in back, maybe a 160, but I'd be pushing it with clearance on the right side of the swingarm so figured I'd go with OEM sizing. I'd bring the wheels with me unless the person is set up in a mobile manner to do it at my place. I'll probably be ordering them next week unless I can find a good price locally.

John, I"ll be testing my ability here in a couple weeks. I have borrowed the spoons they sell to do this yourself and i have 2 new tires for my Teal to get done. I also have a large C-clamp to break beads, speaking of beads I will be adding the Dyna Beads to my set of rubbers, 2oz. front, 3oz. rear. If all goes well I would be happy to help you out.  cooldude

Years ago, more than I care to remember, I also had a set of spoons and used to change my own bike tires. I have no idea what happened to them, it's been 50+ years and a number of moves so no telling where they ended up. I'll let you know what route I take, would like to find a local shop that would do it for a moderate price.

John

I know of a shop in Kissimmee that does not mind changing tires even if you don't buy from them.

They  did my car tire while I waited  cooldude

If you need the info, let me know

John, The Trikeshop in Inverness does it for me. Mount & balance for $35 if I carry the new tire & wheel in. I've done the spoon method many times but to me it's money well spent to avoid the fight.

I have no idea how you keep up with anything in your very full garage. I'm always amazed when you walk right over to something and there it is, right where you knew it was. If you can't find them..they ain't there.  Wink

Jeff, I'm still looking for my 1/4" nut driver. Rita asked me what I used it on mostly....I told her little boys.....mostly.  Grin

It was part of a set so I ended up replacing it, probably show up one day when we finally move.

I go through a few tires.  Roll Eyes

I use the Used Tire Guy. You know the one, an old gas station with a tractor trailer full of used tires for sale. Usually located in a gritty part of town.

My guy uses a vertical (pneumatic) bead breaker clamp, then a horizontal clamp device that grasps the OD of the brake rotor. Takes him less than 5 minutes per wheel and he mounts whatever I carry in.

Ten bucks a tire. $4 per dismount, $4 per mount, $2 tire disposal fee (state law). He installs my new 90* air fitting for free. I use the "Earl's Alternate Method" of balancing, a fistful of .12g white ceramic Airsoft pellets ($5/lb @ Walmart) thrown in the new tire before installation. They're reusable too  cooldude

Earl, where do you find them at Walmart, I'll need some for both wheels. Figure maybe 2 oz. in front and 3 oz. in back.

I could use that on a few thousand squirrels around here.....and a couple cats. I wonder if basting them in some kind of hot sauce overnight would increase the effectiveness?   cooldude
