My grandfather, two uncles, and two cousins have died from intestinal or colon cancer. I have one on his deathbed currently and my dad has had surgery for intestinal cancer. You can bet I have colonoscopies as prescribed by my doctor.

I was unfortunate to NOT have met LaserPat. I too was saddened by the loss of another bro. But his lasting LEGACY is for us to get that colonoscopy done as required to save some more lives. I M H O THE worst part of it is the cleansing before the procedure. They put me out for the colonoscopy. Guys-make all the cursed excuses you want-not ONE of the excuses is worth the time and trouble it took to utter it-NOT ONE! It's 106 miles from my driveway to the V A Hospital where I had mine done. Even IF it was a 1006 miles I would have gotten it done! NO MORE excuses-get that camera up inside for the look see! That camera sure beats the alternative! RIDE SAFE.

I been doing them every 5 years because my grandmother died of colon cancer. Last time I got the Doc to put on my report that he did not find my head up there so I could show my wife as proof.

Not to steal the original message...because it is certainly an important one...but just wanted to add that I still have my LaserPat ribbon on the handlebars...right next to my Wizard Cross I made up shortly after he left us. Looking forward to GOTF and remembering the times we had with both of them.

Because of LaserPat's story, I got a colonoscopy and upper GI right after that. A cancerous polyp was found in my duodenum. It was removed and biopsied by the local clinic and also sent to Mayo who confirmed the cancer was contained and hadn't made it to the "margins".
Just had another upper GI this past January that showed I'm clean.
I could very possibly owe my life to LaserPat because cancer usually isn't found there and could have grown undetected for who knows how long.
I'm forever grateful...
GetR done, folks.

Going for the first time in April, been having the EGD done every 2 years because of acid reflux. Decided I would have both done at the same time and get it over with. Flint
Flint, I never knew LaserPat, but thanks for mentioning the reflux thing. I'd forgotten about the Barrett's Syndrome warning my GI guy gave me a couple of years because of reflux & swallowing difficulty. I've already set a reminder to schedule one tomorrow. I had lower GI's every two years from age 18 until I was 50. Now I do it every 3 years. I grew up on an East Arkansas cotton farm during the late fifties & early sixties. The insecticides & herbicides we used began killing some of my friends as early as our college years. Thanks to an oncology guy in Memphis who noticed he had way too many patients from E. Ark. & W. Mississippi having colon cancer, we began the colonoscopies every two years. They used to be horrible with the barium enemas and cocktails but it kept many of us alive. Today's day before drill is a piece of cake compared to the early years. My youngest uncle died of colon cancer a couple of years ago at age 77. Although he was a cotton farmer his entire adult life & knew about what I described, he had never had a colonoscopy until it was way beyond too late - just didn't like the idea. Open discussion such as this saves lives. Dan

Got mine done today along with an endoscopy. 3 polyps removed with recommendation of another procedure in 3-5 years & the endoscopy revealed gastritis; easily treatable. Easy procedures both of them. No worries & was only sedated about 40 minutes. Glad I did this for sure.

I had one a couple years ago. Real good results. I am now having trouble with haital hernia, e.g.: hard swallowing, irritated throat. Just had a scope put down. Doc said, next time, do the colonoscopy and the scope of the throat at the same time. Sounds like a plan to me! As my buddy old2soon says, the worst part is the cleansing! But, I did not think even that was too b ad. Get er done! A

Amen & amen....Oh and I forgot...hiatal hernia too. But that's not a problem. Cleansing was...well...not so unpleasant. Since the doc excised three polyps I have to go another 24 hours without solid food. So much for laying there waiting, thinking about what I was gonna eat tonight & salivating like Pavlov's dog.

As said, its easy. Had my 3rd the other day. They had me use the liquid, don't know why. Its not pleasant but not that bad. The 'procedure' itself is easy and you can watch everything.

Did it earlier this month
Doc sure knew a lot of lawyer jokes (I was NOT offended) and was mildly relieved that she said the only bad news was she could not find my brain up my ass.
The liquid sucked, couldnt hold the second dose down but didnt matter as the 1st dose cleaned me out in hours

Just had my third about a month ago...
As was the case each time they found polyps which were biopsied - All was fine.
I'm now on the five year plan instead of the three year - for insurance reasons. That CAN'T be good...
Bad news - they have now changed the "all fun, all the time" prep procedure. You now drink only half of the prep the night before - experiencing the expected results. THEN, you get to set your alarm at 2AM to enjoy the second round - at around 3 AM!!
I am NOT making this up!
But, again, all this is NO reason NOT to undergo this important procedure.
PS: Fortunately, the anesthesiologist was GORGEOUS - for the two minutes we chatted before I dozzzzzzzzed off...

I drew a doctor whose first name was Elizabeth. I thought, no problem. Likely middle aged and worn out looking. She was maybe early thirties and a drop dead redhead. They assured me that what they gave me was for "twilight sleep"; that they would be able to instruct me and carry on conversation with me but that I would have no memory of it. I have no idea what was said more than a couple of minutes after she came through the door. I think that may have been a good thing. Oh, the report was that I was clean as a whistle. She didn't want to see me again for ten years.

Before a prostate biopsy, they give you a shot of Novocain (or something).
I'm a bit nervous, the needle is long, since it has to go in a ways before the jab.
The doc sees my nerves and says.... don't worry, you'll just feel a little prick.
Looking over my shoulder I reply...... Whoa doc, there'll be none of THAT!!!

Waiting on the results of the 3 polyps that were excised. 1 was 1mm, the other two were 6mm. Had to stop the baby aspirin therapy I've been on since the heart surgery. The GI doc thinks that the aspirin could be the culprit causing the gastritis. Anyway, after almost 3 days of no solid food, the quesadilla & enchiladas were damn good tonight.

That's interesting. We've always been told the little 81mg aspirin will not cause the difficulties regular 325mg aspirin can. Course I suppose all stomachs are not equal.

Have to call my cardiologist. Perhaps the enteric aspirin would protect my stomach a bit better. I've just been taking the chewables. Plus, I've been on them for over 4 years now. GI doc thinks I may have picked up a H. Pylori infection in Brazil. The aspirin can aggravate that even more. He took a biopsy of the stomach lining so that should give me some idea of what is going on.
