Compression testing question
«

When perfoming a compression test, the manual says to open the throttle all the way while cranking the engine - if I do won't there be gas all over by the time I get to checking the fifth or sixth cylinders?

Nope,WOT at cranking speed pulls much air than fuel,no accel pump to add fuel so crank away.

Does bike run? If so you could run till out of fuel, or drain carbs we used to disconnect fuel on carburetor. Before fuel injected

As mentioned, these carbs don't have accelerator pumps to you're not pumping raw gas in with each twist of the throttle. Pull the plugs and have at it.

According to the Honda Service Manual, it says to remove all plug wires and then remove one plug at at time to check compression. I have always removed all the plugs to let the engine spun faster when checking compression.
What do you guys do?
Do you agree with the manual?

I only remove one plug at a time. On every engine, outboards, inboards, car motors...... Always one plug out only.

Racking the grey matter. One plug at a time will help find a blown head gasket between cylinders.
All plugs out will give a higher compression reading. All cylinders checked should be the same (approx) number of revolutions. There is also a wet test , putting oil in the cylinders , (just a squirt) to test the blow by in the rings. It has been a while and if I miss-stated , I am sure someone on this board will gently correct me.
