Help with starter switch

Just replaced the starter switch...in opening the headlight to remove old wiring, I noticed the blue / white lead with it's own connector insulator boot burnt.  I do not have the schematics to determine if this damage is caused by too much current on the stater circuit or another issue...she's back together and running I'm just concerned by the overheat condition in the circuitry...thanks...nytaz

I am getting ready to replace my starter switch also.  I have a couple of questions did you buy from a dealer and what was cost?  Good luck with the burnt wires!

Around $70 for the whole unit.......#5 on the diagram. Local dealer gave me a discount. I couldn't believe it. All I needed was the button itself. I have read on here that if you have extra lights and running them through the starter switch may cause electrical problems there.

I did just what you said and installed the Optronics lights from Walmart. Amazing how bright they are. I wired them to always stay on except when starter button is pushed using a relay triggered by the headlight wire (blue/white).

I mounted them on the engine guards and got the "triangle" effect with the headlight.

I can see how they could obscure the front turn signals if they were under the triple tree because they are so bright.

I was just reading an article from Chet at Rattlebars that starting the engine with the HI beam on will also cause the starter switch to fail prematurely.  I am going to add a relay and aftermarket switch per his suggestion.  This website and members are awesome!
