Can anyone recommend an aftermarket turn signal that will fit my Valkyrie, and work well of course? I'm getting old and never remember to turn it off.

I'm having the same problem. The only self cancelling unit I'm aware of is made by Kisan. The SM3 signal minder is for the Valk. I haven't tried it yet.

There are self cancelling, and there a buzzers that buzz your bottom (and beepers) until you turn them off manually.  I don't know of any to recommend.

I forget too.  Not usually when I get to turn quickly, but when I sit for several minutes waiting for permission, or traffic to clear (by which time I have forgotten they are on).  So I have a new system; I always use signals as a safety factor when I need to show people my intentions in traffic.  But I no longer will sit there with my signals on for long minutes while I wait.  I am using hand signals all the time when I do not have to show clear intentions to heavy traffic.  It's not a perfect system, and I still forget, but much less than I used to.

My biggest problem is the indicator in the interstate faring is dim and not very noticeable in direct sunlight.

Of course when you ride with friends, they are more than willing to wave and holler, and flash their hand and lights, and honk their horns, and throw things at you, and humiliate you for no charge.

Here's hoping that someone will post a report that this device works perfectly every time on their 1500 series Valkyrie.  cooldude

I had the Kaisan on my Yamaha Royal star - loved it.

I did have to fiddle with the turn signal switch to get it it work properly - I think I had to install a return spring of some sort.

For turning the signals on and off... worked GREAT. Would not turn off when the brakes were applied... and resumed the countdown when the brakes were not activated. Loved it...

for some of the other features - never did get them to work correctly. I didn't care about the hazzards... or wig wag / parade mode... only turn my signals off after "x" seconds. so I never tried to get them running right.

Here's another option, albeit a little complicated.

Another option is to make the indicator lights much brighter.

I finally did the high intensity LED indicator thing that BF referred to above after first using buzzers.  The buzzers could not be heard except while stopped.  The new indicator light cannot be ignored but it is  probably too bright at night...

Easy solution, just convert your OEM handlebar controls to Harley. They have the left turn on the left side, right turn on the right side. Then install the Kuryakyn diode kit and choose one of a number of modules on the market that will give you everything you could want. And the controls come already chromed for less than it costs to have your OEM units chromed.

Installed mine about ten years ago, not one problem since. cooldude

I put the SM3 Signal Minder on my Standard over 10 yrs ago . It worked OK for a year or two , then started going wacky . One light would go out, one would stay on etc. If I changed the dip switches it would work OK for a while . Always worked canceling out but running lights were really wacko . I just unplugged it yesterday and put my flasher back in . Does the SM3 have a reset ?

The only reset I know is Kisan Technologies. Give their tech support a call and see what they can do for you. FWIW  Roll Eyes

I installed the LED indicator lamp and that helped a lot.  I think the separate left/right Harley controls would drive me absolutely bonkers, but I'm sure you get used to it.

I have self cancelling turn signals, they work every time (almost).  I activate the turn signal myself and then I push the button to cancel them myself, self canceling, train your SELF to hit the button after completing any and every turn, then train your SELF to look at the light ever so often, if you did forget you should be able to SELF correct it shortly if you are used to looking at the light every once in a while.  crazy2

I'm curious about this subject. I see a few choices to pick from. I was actually going to install the Signalminder. Just seems like it doesn't get enough thumbs up. Wondering how many of you had the buzzer/vibrator put in your Ultimate seat when you bought it? If so is it effective? I'm about to pull the trigger on an Ultimate. Wondering if the device is worth it?

So, you get some kind of electronic gizmo to turn off the bulb/led signal and still

have the circuit energized since the turn signal lever is still in the turning position.

I can sure see that would be good for the bike electronics. To be eternally "on"

until the next time you think to use the turn signals again. Personally, I feel that

if you are so disabled that you always forget to make the correct moves, you are

near to the point you should consider to stop riding the bike. I don't mind if you

kill yourself, but the thought your incompetence could injure others makes me pause.

It is called a thumb!!!  I cured that problem years ago, and if you can't see the indicator light in direct sun light on my bike, then you should not be riding a motorcycle.

That's the point, Dreamaker!  And, it's probably why this thread is relatively popular...

For many of us our thumbs don't seem to work every time. Cheesy

Hats off to those of you who cancel your signals 100% of the time!  I may be riding in a group with you sometime and forget to cancel, so you might want to stay in front of me... Smiley

Ricky-D, I know where you're coming from but still.....kinda harsh there bud.  Wink

An old riding bud used to forget his so I'd honk at him about it. When I'd get his attention, I'd make the cutting motion across my neck....he knew immediately.

I'd be for one of these self canceling ones if it was really easy to put in and then worked and worked and worked. On the other hand sometimes I leave mine on – and I don't think I have dementia yet –  it's just the way it is when you're on a bike (and you've been dirt biker for 40 years).  One solution I found – probably not too popular – is don't turn it on in first place  Grin

The 4 way flashers that 3W put in my bike years ago cause a feedback when I use the turn signals

Its like the beep a forklift makes when its backing up

LOVE IT !

Never forget to turn off the blinker and I have emergency flashers if needed

Thanks Rick !!!

Sm3 for 2 years no problem.  I did however cut and install two square sponge pieces 5/8" long (cut from the middle of an old sanding sponge) and slid them the blinker housing R & L to stop the switch from locking in. This instead of the supplied cylendar sponge or spring option.  If I remember it was 1/8 x 1/8 x 5/8". It is a square slot so I cut a square peg.  I seem to be picked as lead rider a lot so leaving a blinker on is not an option.  I set the dips to 10 seconds. I like the auto feature where if you apply the brake let's say at 5 blinks then it will blink 5 more times after the turn.

Yeah, I put on the Signal Minder and am happy with it. Not too difficult to set up. Not only do you get self cancelling but you also get flashing brake lights, run signals function as running lights, and you get hazard flashers and escort flashers (alternating hazard lights). Installing the springs is a little tricky, but worth it.

I installed the 2BeSeen as mentioned in this thread about a week ago & am really impressed with it after a 500 mile trip this past weekend.

It adds height and width to both the front and rear appearance & also functions as an additional brake light and it makes it hard not to notice a left on blinker.

It's American made & excellent quality & simple to install.

I installed the Signal Minder, and am glad I did.  I like the additional hazard lights and escort lights, and the 2 1/2 second flashing brake lights. The trickiest part was getting the right amount of foam material in the turn signal switch to get it to  work properly without having to push too hard on the thumb lever. The same company sells a tire pressure gauge that gives you constant tire pressure as well as some other interesting tidbits based on wheel speed.
