@010 with aftermarket remote starter from dealer.  Cheryl pulled into driveway, shut her down, she started right up again.  Shut it down again and removed key but dash lights stayed lit and there was a noticeable hum from under hood.  Disconnected battery for couple minutes.  Hum went away immediately.  Started her again and she stated right up and then tried to start again all by itself and let out that awful noise you get when you turn the key accidentally while car is running.  Pulled the batter cables again and that's where we are.

I don't know how to disconnect this thing.  Any ideas about disconnecting the remote starter or how to fix it?

Thanks
G

Sounds like the button on the key fob is stuck. Try taking the battery out of that cooldude

Good suggestion.

So this starter is a factory item? Then I would start reading over your owners manual and see how you can disable it, if at all.

I know some are able to disable the auto lock feature, with a "code", and there must be other things too, on newer cars.

Removed battery from key fob.  Reconnected car's battery.  Car started up all by itself.  Inserted key, turned to on then turned to off and car would not shut off.  Disconnected car's battery and did the key thing again and car shut off.

Sounds like the installed controller has a short somewhere. Is there more than one fob? since it is happening in the driveway, maybe it's the other fob that has the stuck button. I know it's a long shot, but, worth trying cooldude

Is this a factory installed remote start system or an after market system.

Makes a difference in the diagnose.

Bingo!  Other fob was in a small wooden box on a wall unit shelf near the door we use to leave the house.  Cheryl cleaned that day and stuffed a bunch of receipts and small items in the box, and to keep the lid of the box down, placed a candle in a jar on top.  There must have been pressure in the right place depressing the button on the fob.

Thank you for your help.  Save us $100 as we were gonna tow it to the dealer.  My insurance would only tow it to the nearest yadda, yadda.  Then, at the dealer, it would have worked just fine, until we got back home.  Silly thing like that, but it'll be the first thing I check next time I have something related to a remote control.
