I've only done it a few times. But was never comfortable. Always thought some jackass was going to move over . But if I was in heavy traffic areas I'm sure I would do it and get more comfortable.

Interesting, I thought it was allowed in CA already. I have seen it done more in CA than other states. Certainly not allowed in CO, but have seen it done very poorly here as well.

Being moved from Not-Illegal to Legal.

I've done it on SoCal freeways.

It's a lot more worrisome on a big dresser than on a naked motorcycle.

Did it for years on my 650, 750, GL1000 & 1100 Hondas but definitely do not feel the same comfort level with my standard or IS. Of course I was a much younger version of myself then. It is nice to cruise up or advance to the head of the class (a term I'd used when teaching my son about CA biking) at a deep auto packed traffic light.

It definitely made the morning commute on the So Cal freeways more invigorating

Making it legal is a good thing, because there will now be defined parameters. I've always thought that there should be a maximum speed differential and a maximum speed. It is my understanding that the CHP has long been in favor of this law.....my2cents....rick

Yes, lane splitting is easier to do on a sport bike.
I had to do it getting to work one afternoon on the FJR that I had.

There was an accident that involved a fatality in Arizona at about mile post 7, on the I-10. The I-10 was shut down and was backed up into California for miles.

It was my agency that was routing the traffic at mile post 1 and sending them up into Parker,

I had to get on the I-10 in Blythe, and get through the stopped traffic or  very slow moving traffic, all the way  to mile post 1. About 6 miles. Then there was no traffic.

I  had to get to work, get the State vehicle and help out with traffic control.

So lane splitting can be nesesary at times, hopefully Arizona will get on board, along with the other States.

Hey guys...

Living in Northern California, its a must on hot days and slow ass traffic.
I do it all the time on my Tourier Valkyrie, although I am glad this will go into a law for us in CA, I wish
the Maximum speed was the posted speed limit, not the 50mph that is being proposed (15mph over current traffic speed) is how I read it.

I will be installing a action cam on my helmet this month to capture some of the experiences I face on a regular basis.. (link will go here)

I know cagers are upset about motorcycles lane sharing, but these are the same idiots that are TEXT-ers while driving, no blinkers when changing lanes, illegal side window tinters, yelling at their kids while driving ....

I say, if the the driver of the car stays focus, looks in their mirrors, stay off the center line, then lane sharing/splitting is not a problem... BUT . huge BUT...

Becareful... if you dont feel safe doing it, then don't.

a few things I look for when traffic slows on the freeways:
1. out of state licenses plates, they have no clue on what lane sharing is.
2. Handicap stickers, give them space..
3. heads tilting down, texting/reading their messages.
4. gaps with the vehicle in front of them, texting/reading their messages.
5. make eye contact with the drivers thru their mirrors, make sure they see you.

 cooldude

alright..
Ride safe.
