I'm looking mainly to see what people are doing about storage for those who don't want to spend an unreasonable amount of money on bags ($600 on Honda's plain leather bags!).

I just added the OEM sissy bar for the wife and luggage rack then strapped on a large sissy bar bag from Custom Bilt I bought in Cycle Gear on sale for $100.

It has enough room in the main compartment for my chaps, my jacket and small tool kit ant the side/back compartments are roomy enough to carry quite a bit of small extras.

I always use the seat bag, for trips I'll add the side bags.

I ride solo.

Now that the Corbin seat is here we were going to look for a bag like you have in the first pic but a tad smaller and buy the below rack for the Corbin setup but in black.

Later down the road I will take off the grab rails put the solo fender plugs in make my own brackets and add champion patriot hard saddle bags that look exactly like the older Valk bags.  Removing the rear blinkers using a LED tag frame I bought.

There is an old thread called bag options other than Corbin or Honda where Mike aka hubcapsc posted this pic and note if the rear blinkers were removed the bags could have been moved back to the correct position on his wood blocks.  I love the way the stock 1gen bags lines look here!!!!  Champion patriot bags look the same as 1gen.  They are not cheap but roomy and look foxy!!

St2sam, how did you mount the bags? I'm guessing because you cover the passenger seat you just let the connecting straps drape over both the seat and handles but if not please show what you did do.

Update, after a weekend of riding I decided to make a thin (3/8) plate to help support the bag, for those wanting dimensions  it's 16 X 8 with 2 notches 1 inch deep 2 inches wide 3 inches in from the end.

You are correct, over both. The tail bag goes over the straps. The bags also strap to the passenger pegs and license plate bracket.

It's very secure, tested to 90 mph. 65mph..
