my name is rusty. i am 52 last month. i bought a 98 valkyrie still in create in 01. this was a gift to myself for staying sober and (6 years) living a very different life (in short, being responsible)  kept it covered and in good shape! this year i put 6 into 6 pipes on it. love it !! what a beautiful bike! last sunday 6-14-15 ,i got my work done so i could plan the day for a nice ride, on the way home stop in for an aa- meeting in milaca.
well to make it short a young man pulled out in front of me.... and i remember nothing.
now ... not to get into the deatailes of that mess, i'll save it for another day.
getting to my concern... 1 reason i like that bike is because of the looks. i mean come on they are beautiful bikes. i am sure insurance will make it a total loss. i am not a big fan of the new valkyries because the motor does not show up like older styles. i dont think i will ever have the money to have this one rebuilt to before the wreck, but i would like to know if there is any respectable companies that can do this??. i am asking.... open .....for some guidance from someone that might know a little more about this than i do. anything would help. i live in Milaca, MN 56353, thanks and ride careful.

If your bike is totalled, probably the best bet is to replace it with a good used bike.  The only way for it to make financial sense to fix the bike is if you did the vast majority of the work yourself.

You haven't told us how bad the damage is, if the insurance company totals it you'll have to get them to sell it back to then get a salvage title.  What exactly need to be fixed on the bike?

Have you seen a M.D.?  Sometimes riders are more banged up internally than they think they are.  My best friend's brother was in a motorcycle accident, and went to sleep that night sore but thinking he was OK.  He didn't wake up.  Please see a doctor if you have more than superficial wounds or deep pains.

You can rebuild and replace everything on the bike from either OEM manufacturers and ebay. But the main concern will be the frame. If it is bent or damaged you will need to buy a used frame. No way will it make sense to pay someone else to do major work.

I have rebuilt mine twice from wrecks only because it became a hobby and it was worth more to me that the salvage price I would get. If the frame is bent/damaged you would be much better off parting out your bike on ebay and buying a new-to-you, used Valkyrie. That way you can get back to riding without weeks of wrenching.

congrats on staying sober!  treat yourself again and buy another Valk with the $ you get from the cage driver's insurance.  that's what I'd do.  Hope you didn't get banged up too bad--can't be if you're still looking to ride!  Cheesy

You, should get in touch with T.P., the Minnesota VRCC Chapter Rep.  The Minnesota Chapter is quite active and Tom may know of 1500 Valks that are for sale.  His contact info can be found here: http://www.valkyrieriders.com/mn/

Where do you live Rusty? I just had a $4,200 accident with my Interstate. I repaired it doing all the work myself for around $1,000. All of that was parts and paint. Rode it to INZANE more beautiful than when I bought it in '09. If the frames not bent, or motor physically damaged it can be repaired. The only downside is the salvage title since it was totaled.

Hey Rusty: I think everyone on this board understands completely. We found a bike we love and we want to keep it. But there are several others out there and they are in great well cared for shape. I know Tom Paradeau, he will help you find one if he can. They are out there.  Find one that you like, purchase it with the insurance money, and put this all behind you.

The classifieds on this board have the 1500 Valk-the old Valk you are looking for from time to time. Some of our board members have moved to the "new" Valk and sell the 1500 Valk we love. When I was about to muster out of the Navy in 68 a Corpsman who SHOUD have been a Doctor told me I had a very high blood count in my alcohol. THAT got me off the heavy serious drinking quickly.
Good luck with your rehab and you WILL find another 1500 Valkyrie. They choose us-we DO NOT choose them!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Good for you on staying sober.

As for the bike, I did not see the frame damage of my wrecked IS until it was dismantled and the cracked paint started bleeding rust.

The used frames that where out there, they wouldn't give a title with it.

A new IS frame was $1500. That and the cost of the whole front end, which took the impact, was more than $ than the cost of just buying another bike. If you have a bike with low mileage, and they are out there, and you can get that from the insurance company, then you could buy another.

In the mean time, just get better. Start looking out there for a bike with everything that you would want with one, cost of replacement parts, and search/research what your options are.

Rusty , I am included in all the well wishes.  The bike can be replaced. Just a suggestion , Do not be ramrodded by the insurance company. Establish a list of options and the quality of the bike. If the other part is responsible , they will try to jamb you. You do not have to talk to them or release the bike to them until you have a comfortable settlement. An attorney  consult should be free. Do not commit to them if you do not need the help , but it will give you some facts. Your insurance company should help you with getting going again. If you can do a buy back for 10% or so , you may consider it as there are many usable parts on that bike. Do not be afraid to seek outside help. The VRCC is your friend and family. A S K for help.
