 These last two from Costco only come in every couple years I’m told. The first one I posted is right up my alley for winter…..peaty with a lot going on. The 20 year old is super dark and carries some heat along with nice flavour but is one I’d choose more in the summer time. Both are priced well IMO. |

Ok. Well, I ran out of Makers46. So yesterday I went where I usually go (good prices) and no Makers. So after an exhausting search and reading labels I chose this. No idea what it is. It’s $10 cheaper than Makers 46 and I surprisingly like it a lot. It’s lighter tasting and is a bit more fruity. I recommend. |

Trying something quite a bit different for me…..rum, Bluenose Rum. Used to drink this stuff during hunting season many years ago. Came into my head today for some reason so I thought I’ll check to see if this stuff is still around because it was good back I. The day and was cheap as well. Maybe that’s why I thought it was good! Well I did obviously I found it but it definitely isn’t as I remember and it sure ain’t cheap. Distilled in Nova Scotia and seems to have won an award of sorts. Took a few sips for the palate to adjust for sure.  |

Never had that one…….and being old doesn’t start for 10 more years! Don’t ask me how I know. I've been told by my nearly 80 year old mom that "old" is whatever age she is + 10 years... If you like a peated Scotch, you'll love it. If you don't, avoid... Octomore is some of the most heavily peated Scotch on Earth... (But there's SO MUCH going on behind the peat, if you can get through it!) Funny/sad story - Octomores are very rare, hard to find, and when you can find them expensive. One of my first, I believe it was the 6.1, I'd paid about $250 for the bottle... Opened the bottle, had a tiny respectful dram, and LOVED IT! Had some lesser stuff and then went to bed. Next morning my dear wife mentioned whatever it was in that black bottle, mixed with Diet Coke, it was really good! ...she'd polished off about 3/4 of a $250 bottle of rare Scotch mixing it with Diet Coke... Because of that, I feel no guilt at all when I pick up an Octomore whenever I see one available! |

Something new (wife said I have had it before but I am old and I forget stuff). About half the price of Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, or similar Scotch Whiskeys. Actually tastes pretty good although not as "bold" as the others I mentioned. Looks like its made for Total Wine and More retailers.  |

Yah, Grangestone (And Shieldaig) are Total Wine house brands... Not bad, but not exceptional, just good.... but very reasonable!
Notice, that one doesn't have an age statement... Which means it could be as young as 3 years old. But, if you like it, that's all that matters!

wife was ecstatic stopped at local grocery store on way home and found her favorite cheap wine (besides aldi's) at 8 vs. 10 per bottle. She picked up 7 more wine bottles namebrand OLIVER her favorite in a variety of flavors to try. On top of that, the nice checker lady threw in another 10% off the bill, hard to beat that.
I stuck to my Jack Daniels 6 pack of downtown punch wine coolers...... They say flavored beer but tastes to me like a not so sweet wine cooler. Mike hard cranberry lemonade is also very good since into sweet drinks or Seagrams Jamaica Make Me Happy wine coolers go down very very very quickly.

had just now some captain morgans apple spiced rum mixed in with HONEY and a stick of butter melted on stove drizzled over the top of pecan muffins poking holes all over the muffins to let the rum concoction soak in. Had 12 but we sneaked one muffin each while still slightly warm so only 10 left for Christmas tomorrow with family. could not wait, that apple spiced rum with honey butter was surely good over the pecan muffins......  For giggles, I added on 3 of mine mini m&m's and crushed butterfinger on top as well....  NOt sure we need the 7lb. ham tomorrow with wife making today another 6 sweat treat desserts including chocolate gnosh brownies with mini m and m's on top. I have a HUGE sweet tooth got that from both of my parents for sure. Was funny in 2007 when my Dad was still alive we found a dirt cheap recipe for fudge and pretty much all it was main ingredient chocolate frosting super easy to make and my Dad ate it like he was starving saying best fudge he ever tasted gobbling it down way way too much. My mom who at the time was a good cook could not believe it was pretty much just store bought chocolate frosting I guess putting her fudge recipe to shame? |
