I am thinking of trying something stupid... I was wondering if there might be a way to modify the CB controls on the I/S (the 2 unused switches if you don't have a CB) to control the Audiovox Cruise Control. I dont have wiring diagrams for either the Audiovox controller or the Radio controls but I would assume (We all know where that leads) that the switches for both systems are just providing a momentary ground to their respective systems. Anyone ever try this or know if its even possible?

This is the most help I can give you on this... http://www.rattlebars.com/valkfaq/schematics/rpage10i.htmlThat is the wiring schematic for the radio control box. Looks like you have two contacts per switch you can wire to. All you would need for the cruise control is a power switch...or leave it turned on all the time. Good luck...and be sure to post your solution when you get it working. Joe

Thats awesome thanks. I think it may require more than I had hoped but I did expect that. The power from what I can see is just a momentary ground to the controller that latches a circuit to get the power on. If that is the case all I would be missing is the LED.

My thinking was using the CB Squelch Up = Pwr On, Down = Pwr Off, CB Ch Up = Res/Accel down = Set /Coast.
Correct me if I am wrong but is the power latched by the switch or by the controller in the unit itself? I am making the assumption that the powere is held by a latch circuit in the controller and controlled by a momentary ground one way or the other.
It may be doable but I would like to do it without messing up the radio controls. Honda in their infinite wisdom does all of the wiring to save wire and weight so alot of it is "shared"

The Audiovox cruise control doesn't latch the power itself. You can certainly wire a relay to make it a latching relay that would allow you to re-purpose a momentary contact of your choice. I like the idea of using the momentary PTT CB switch to power-on the cruise control using a latching relay setup to do this. If you're handy with electronics you can use a flip-flop design to make the PTT toggle the cruise on and off. It certainly sound like it will work. I might reverse your thinking and use the CB-CH for power as you won't be reaching for that as much. I like having the speed controls as near my hand grip as it can be. I find that with my setup that I sometimes turn on the high beams inadvertently. I put the vacuum modulator in the fairing so the wiring to the I/S control is nice and short. I sure do like your idea.

Good point on the switch reversal. The problem I have now is that the radio and the CB share some of the wires so it is not a direct Tap and Go type of setup. I may have to get a set of radio controls off of Ebay and disassemble it to rewire the switches for my purpose. Looking at the audiovox controller there is a Power wire, ground wire, Blue, Yellow, Brown, and green I assume are the outputs from each of the 4 switches (on, off, set, resume) and a grey wire for the LED. So it looks like the panel is dumb (no logic on board at all) Just provides a ground to the appropriate circuit to make the controller do what it needs to do. That makes tasking a momentary switch for each of the 4 functions easy. It is tapping into the bike wiring that is difficult.

I think that using a meter and buzzing out the handlebar wiring will be the easiest to do and will keep all the wiring mods up front if you put your vacuum modulator inside the fairing. And you're right the Audiovox controller is just a dumb switch box. I don't offhand remember the color codes of the controller but I probably have it if you need it.

How about this I believe it's very similar to the audiovox cruise control. http://www.murphskits.com/product_info.php?products_id=188

There is nothing wrong with my controller. I am just trying to eliminate it in favour of the 2 unused switches on the radio controller. Cleaner install.
It looks like the modification will require bypassing the wiring to the 2 switches in the radio controller and wiring the audiovox harness directly to it. Not what I had hoped but the way the box is wired makes it impossible to simply splice in. A friend gave me a good idea but when I looked closer I realized that it would fry my radio if I tried it.
Baby steps.
