Out with the old...in with the wooohoooo!!!!

Well, I was dead set on getting myself a set of Corbin bags for my bike.  I was going to put in an order soon, and then my central AC went on the house during the hottest time of the year of course.  Now, it has cooled off a bit, and I was able to get an AC window unit for the bedroom, but it is going to cost about $1600 to replace the central AC unit.  There goes my Corbin bags out the window.  Luckly, I have a cousin in the heating/AC business and he is putting the AC in at cost, or I would be looking at more like $3500.  Why do you say do we have AC up here in Canada, since we have a fairly short summer.....because it gets pretty steamy up here with the humidity......and my wife wants it.

That being said, I decided to go for a less expensive route for some saddlebags.  I need saddlebags for travelling, so I found a set on eBay that look pretty good, are a good size, waterproof, well made, and are a great price as well.  They don't have a lock on them, but that should be easy to fix.  Now, I just need to build the brackets to put them on.  The Honda brackets are ridiculously expensive and look pretty easy to make, so I will make up my own design.  I love having projects to do on the bikes.

Here is what the saddlebags look like:

I have a set of OEM Honda brackets and I've been debating on just buying some Saddlemen (just the brand I always use) bags to try.  I think they'll look fairly close to the OEM Honda bags and be a fraction of the price.

The bags look really nice! Seeing you are going to tackle this before I get the chance I will be very interested in the steps taken. Also I wonder if there is a way to conceal the bracket under the fender, take off the grab-rails and use the blanks I bought from Honda.  See my crude MS Paint rendition.  The red is the bracket. Thoughts??? Anyone?

That's a good idea Jerry.  I will have to look into that to see if I can put the bracket there.  Possibly mold it to the inside of the fender.  I wonder if the tire would hit it if the rear shock bottms out.

Finally someone is tackling a non oem set of leather bags. Please take lots of pictures/videos and put up some blueprints of any parts you make.
