at times when crusing at 70-80 mph   on interstate  feels like I am running out of fuel  (plenty of fuel in tank) if I turn petcock off or on to reserve and back to main setting runs as normal would...rebuilt the petcock last summer and have had no problems until this week...the tank vent is not pinched..makes no difrence with the fuel cap (put a match book cover under the seal to permit air to enter tank)...any Ideas on what else to check?

Fuel line bent too tightly or collapsing?

Still sounds like a petcock and/or vacuum problem.

This is exactly what happened to me.  Fixed it, and when it messed up again I got rid of that OE valve and got a quality piece of equipment.  There are a couple options out there, all are a definite upgrade.  I went with Pingel.

With my tank spacers and chrome hanger covers I have to have the petcock situated perfectly. Otherwise it binds slightly and doesn't let the petcock work correctly.

That was one of the reason I went with a Pingel petcock.

hi chris . I read your response, and curious when you said  ''couple options'' I have 124000  kilo on original petcock ,thinking on change or new -still runs ok but ??-so what options and  are the pingel petcocks all same dia. and what is the dia of fuel line to attach to pingel also where is the best place to get one  thinking  Honda dealer wont stock these other petcocks  I saw in Canadian tire store up here a 'fuel shut off valve '' wondering if that will be any good on the fuel line after the original petcock ''just a thought for extra safety for  avoiding hydrolock yikes I even hate saying that word
thank you chris  west here  take care

I use Pingel, but there are others, people get tired of hearing that Pingle is the only way

You can look at www.golanproducts.com as well

I have a 99 Interstate.

Mine started doing that today, after about 15-20 minutes of riding it starts acting like its starving for fuel and running on only a few cylinders...  I'm going to check the vacuum line first, I already rebuilt the petcock a few months ago.

Which Pingel or part# did you go with?

Thanks in advance,
Bryan

My Interstate did a similar thing a few years ago and after rebuilding the tank valve and checking everything over and over I put a new valve on it. Problem solved. Had a leak internally somehow.

I see the Pingle 1311-CH specified above, why not the 1311 CHV?  ("V" is the addition of a vacuum hose connector)

Wouldn't the vacuum edition help avoid hydro-lock?

With the vacuum version you are going to have another diaphragm. The idea is to eliminate them (diaphragms) so they can't fail. The vacuum model only helps prevent a lock if you leave the gas on all the time. If you get in the habit of turning it off every time you are the safety instead of that little flap of rubber.

Some opt for the electronic shut off valve to stop hydoloc and don't need to remember to turn off the tap and vacuum leeks wont affect it, You can also wire in a switch so it will stay off for security reasons Smiley

If the bike runs well under full throttle it won't be the fuel valve.
Try easing the fuel enrichment lever (choke) open while this is happening, if it smooths out then it is a fuel delivery problem.

Mine ran well under full throttle but surged at cruising speed, I had to overhaul/clean the carbs...
