thinking on Progressive 412 Series Cruiser Dual Shocks from MOTOSPORT.COM. On sale right now for
$269....  fair price? also, current OEMs are 13". Can I order the 12" to lower a bit??
   thanks in advance - Mike

I have the 412's on two of my three Valks, and they are an "OK" replacement shock. There are better shocks available, however the better shocks are much pricier (a trade off).

Having a short inseam I've used the 11.5inch 412's. Shorter shocks may mean less wheel travel, thus a deterioration of ride quality.

Two sixty nine isn't a bad price for the 412's/

I have the 412's with the heavy duty springs. Much better than OEM but a little stiff with the HD's. I'm satisfied with them and your right - not a bad price.

now to complicate things, Dennis Kirk has several options with different spring weights....  huh?
the most common is the 120/170 spring which I'm assuming would mean double, split tween the 2 shocks. 2 up we'd go bout 350 lbs which would fall in the 2x170=340 zone or 1 inch travel....
am I thinking correctly by splitting the weight tween the 2 or same as doubling the rate?

jeez, I just wanna buy shocks....

I just installed the 444 HD's (that's heavy duty springs versus Harley Davidson) on my 2000 Tourer about 6 months ago.  I love them, and highly recommend them.

I ended up putting the 12.5" on which would be ~.5" under the stock height of 13".  If I was to do it again, I would probably go with 12" height to lower the rear a tad.

I'm 5' 11", and weigh ~190lbs.  Two-up 50% of the time and/or long distance traveling with extra luggage weight.

I've got the 12 1/2" HD 412s on one of my Valks and am certainly happy with them. Yes, you could get better shocks but as 'Da Prez' says, not for that price !

I'm not sure their fitment advice is accurate.

I've had Progressive 412s for ten years, 11 inch.  Look at Cruiser Customizing price is $269 right now:
http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/412-series-shocks-valkyrie/part/PS-412-VALKYRIE

I have found them very reliable because they are adjustable.

I'd like to go the 12" but do a lot of 2 up riding, am I limiting
the travel leading to bottoming out quicker? yes, heavy duty...

yup, it's been a train wreck. seems the 412,s are about out of stock everywhere.
here's some #'s that I got from the Progressive people and a tech at Drag Specialty-
#412-4211c is the 13" chrome 412
#412-4219c is the 12.5" chrome 412

I hated to go to Amazon but it was the only place I could find 412's in stock....

yea, I did consider the 430's but I'm on a budget with at least 2 more big rides before the
season is over.

Amazon??  I'd rather do business with a brick and mortar establishment, even if they do
have a websites still doing business with people. In my mind Amazon for the most part is
just a server and does fulfillment.....    I know it'sa fine line but we've all got'em.
