Had to make a run to J&P Cycles for a hydraulic line for my 1200 project bike. This was sitting in the parking lot when I pulled in. If you look closely at the back, you can see he has igniters for flame throwers on the exhaust. Inside done up nice but not my taste. Tried to spot the owner inside but not around, would have liked to see under the hood. I hung around for a while but he never showed. Everything is frenched in, top looks to be at least a 5" chop in front, maybe more in back. I'l like to see it crank up and raise it. When I was a kid, we raked them with the front dropped instead of the back end. If you couldn't knock over a beer can with your front bumper it wasn't low enough, took a lot of engineering back then 'cuz OTC airbag kits didn't exist. The workmanship on this Ford looked really good, as was the paint job although not my taste for color which makes me wonder if it was a chick car.   |

Gotta luv the appelton spot lights also. I think of ali that old iron that got put into the crusher because of demo derbys and I choke back a heart wrenching sob! I'd like to KNOW how many of em I trashed.  Good catch John-thanks fer the photo.  RIDE SAFE. |

Chopped dropped ---ok ---- but is that not stretched as well? My dad had a 49 the back did not look like that.

Jerry, I believe you might be right, although it might be an optical illusion, with the rear of the roof chopped, raking the rear window quite a lot. That truck lid really does look longer than stock, for sure.

That was my thoughts as well. A HS buddy had one waaaay back when, an ugly green and the back seat was not friendly. I insisted that if we double dated we take my car, at least you weren't sitting there with your knees up near your chin. My dad had a '49 fordoor, we wore it out when my mother got cancer and was convalescing about 120 miles from where dad was school superintendent. We'd make that run almost every weekend until she passed. I'd love to have an old "shoebox" sitting in my drive, lots of memories. |

Back in the day, the 49 and 50 Fords were the cats ass. Those old flatheads would haul. I had a 50 convert, and spent lots of nights with the top down swatting mosquitos parked out at the San Jacinto monument with the Honey of the day. Good memories. Used to hang at Roy's, the best drive in in Houston. Would pull in and the car hops would bring a couple of cold ones before I could order. Was a very good time to be alive and at the age to enjoy it. Kids today will never see the like.

We had a drive-in called The Dog House on the edge of town. It was THE place to go to meet the gals and the car hops were the best of the bunch. The area my hometown was in had large gypsum deposits and if you drove through a cornfield behind the drive-in, you could access an abandoned one. A great swimming hole and most of the carhops would go there after work....around 1:00am. One night some of us decided to head out there just before they got off work and wait for them. Midsummer, most of us around 17 years old, a great place for "social interchange." The girls sneaked up on us, picked up all our clothes except our shoes, giggling all the while.....then left them them. Imagine two carloads of guys, buck naked, driving home. It was time for paybacks which came a couple weeks later with one exception; we only left one set of car keys with their shoes. Imagine one carload, a Ford convertible, of naked girls(9) driving through town at 2:30am, with three cars following them with spotlights from all angles. Yes, those were the days.  |
