I was going to buy the SoCal running lights, but with limited funds these days I decided to make my own.

I bought some lights off eBay, and made the hardware to mount them.  They are 16W LEDs, so they will throw a lot of light.  All in all, it cost me $40.

Did you have any difficulty with the connections on the bike side?

Smart idea to cut the exact shape of the lights in the cover instead of cutting the whole square and then invent something to fill it ! I have creed lights I want to install these days, that's a tip I'll follow  cooldude

None.  I hooked them up to the wires that Honda put there for running lights.  Green/purple is pos, and green is neg.  I just tapped into the wires.  I didn't use a switch, since I want them on all the time.

Wink Great job but I question how much useable light you are going to gain with those. Let us know when you do some night driving if they help

I used the three existing mounting holes that are on each side. (see red arrows)
The OE running lights use these same holes.
I used some 6mm bolts that I cut the heads off to hold the bottom bracket.
I screwed them in, and use some nuts to lock them down.
I drilled the holes in the bottom plate accordingly, and then used some more nuts to position the bottom bracket.
I made a bottom bracket to mounted it to these 6mm bolts.
After I got the bottom brackets where I wanted them, I took them off and drilled three 1/4" holes in a triangular pattern.
I did the same with the top plate.
This is so that I can adjust the lights.
I used 3.5"x1/4" pan head bolts, and locked them down with some nuts.
I used pan headed bolts because they were the only ones that were completely threaded in stainless steel.
I put some more lock nuts each bolt, and then put springs on the top two bolts.
The bottom bolt I just put another lock nut on top to hold it solid.
I didn't worry about making it look pretty, since no-one will ever see it, but me.

Here is a picture.

My purpose for these lights is to be noticed in the daytime.  They are 16W LED, and they do put out a lot of light, but our headlights are so bright that I doubt they will be seen at night.

Now you got it ...... Like I said in other replys I also, wanted riding lites but the Honda one at $250.00 was just toooo much I did get the Honda switch to put in the left side pannel by the gas cap release, but found lites on the internet for $21.00 each, and they have an extra tiny circuit board that on every third turn on, the lites go strobe..... now thats to be seen, I know I cant ride down the road with them in that mode but for pulling into a parking lot or just a short zap its really cool..Just to have spares I ordered another set,,,and since then I found and got apair of lites that are 3inches in diameter with a, like spot small lite in the center and an outer ring, flood style that can be wired separate, I think I will keep those til someone comes out with a batwing fairing for the 2014 Valkyrie, center head lite and space to mount these to the side...Thats the only other major addition I plan ...... till then I will ride with the windshield,Bags, Hard Trunk(only for trips),hwy pegs, and the driving lites... Thats why I got the Valkyrie, not the FB6, or the full Gold Wing, I set the bike up the way I wanted it,     Ya I do things MY WAY.... FOR MEEEEEEE.
