Hey I have noticed that my hands get numb gripping the bars/grips while riding this bike.  Do any of you experience or have experienced the same thing?  If so, any solutions?

Mine did the same.  That is why I changed my grips to a set of Avon grips.

Check them out.  I got the MT Air Cushion Anodized Grips with Throttle Assist.

Try adjusting them up or down to fit your reach.

Works for me.

Do you have a throttle lock?

If not, it gives you time to shake your hands out to get the blood flowing.

The bike forces you to lean foreword, and you put extra weight on your hands and forearms. That is what set back inserts are made for. Or you could do what hubcapsc did to his bike, and use risers. I can't lean foreword at all without my shoulders and hands going numb. cooldude

The Valkyrie is the only bike I have that doesn't make my right hand go numb every once in awhile.  Try loosening your grip~

+1

There you go... beat me to it!  cooldude Most people grip their bars to tightly. Try to also lighten up on the bars going through a turn. Makes the turn smoother.

Drop the bars.  Seriously.  I was suffering from (a bit) of the same thing and loosened my grip, which helped, but on a flake occurrence after I worked on my bars I set them lower than how the dealer set them up.  Instant comfort!

If the bars are too high for you (fairly common) then they put your wrist into an imperfect angle.  Change the angle, you'll get comfy.  Easiest way to try changing the angle is to simply move the bars.  Just make sure that, after you move the bars (up or down) that they don't hit anything.

My throttle side only right hand goes intermittently numb and tingly on both my Interstates for years... generally only when cruising freeways or high rpms for lengthy periods.  Both have Kury Iso grips.  I have attributed it to the necessarily looser fit of a grip on a floating throttle sleeve, since my left hand is never affected.  And the harmonic vibration from the engine (not a Harley shaking vibration).  I don't get these symptoms in my right hand at any other time from any other activity.  I get relief from the throttle boss and throttle lock.  I don't think I am squeezing the grip too hard, but I do try to lighten my grip when it starts.  Heavier Winter gloves (or gel padded palms) also helps, but it only happens on longer distance rides, and I don't take many long trips in Winter.

Michvalk,

Can you tell us more about the set back inserts?  Is there a set for the Valk?

Thanks,

Brad

I couldn't find any set back inserts for 1" bars.  They were either 7/8" or 1-1/8".
I even tried some longer risers, but they hit the tank bezel.  The only way I found to relieve the strain is to get a set of bars that were longer.  I wanted a 16" ape hanger with a 14" pull back.  I didn't find anything I liked, so I made mine.  I am sure that a metal worker near you could do the same.  By the way, I arced my bars so that they would not hit the bezel, and I used the stock risers.  I saw a guy on eBay that makes handle bars to order.

Any of the grips in the Metric Touring page will fit.

Will these work?   Any 1" metric cruiser?

Yep. Same grips I bought except I bought black ones.  They are a little long, but that doesn't make any difference.

Awesome info.  How long is "too long"; I've been desperately trying to find info on Avon grips, as I'm looking at the heated versions, and this is the first mention I've heard about them on our Valks.

Another fix is the Kuryakyn Iso Grips #6345 grips with the Throttle Boss #6318

They are about an inch longer that the OE grips, but are stiff enough that you won't notice.

How easy is it to get the old ones off?  How do you go about it?  Thanks!

The right side one comes off easily when you remove the cables.  The left one can come off with a pair of channel lock pliers.  Just give it a twist to break the glue or cut it off with a knife.
