I have ridden in the snow many times when growing up in Pennsylvania; looks like he applied uneven throttle or too much throttle not gradual enough, it is best to let it bog down a little bit in a higher gear and obviously you want to avoid any wheel spin. I think the slight incline before the bridge did him in.  Didn't look too bad on the dismount as it could've been much worse.
