I'm impressed JD!!

Hey on a side note...  not sure what everyone is doing but the Topeka Hockey team (roadrunners) are playing at the Topeka Expo Center on Saturday night Jan 23.  I am getting tickets for on the glass they are only 16 bucks a ticket.  My brother and a few buddies have expressed interest and thought I would make it known to all my local vrcc friends that might want to go.  If you have never been to a hockey game here is your chance.  You can visit the Roadrunners at www.topekaroadrunners.com   If you want to go let me know how many tickets you want and I will get them by this friday.  The game on saturday starts at 7pm and usually last about two hours or a bit longer.  Hope to hear from you guys...

It's time to reactivate the Kansas thread, cause I made the Cassoday ralley yesterday.  Purty good sized crowd considering the 39 degree cloudy start when I left Toepicker.  Maybee 2 to 5 hundred bikes coming and going while I was there.  Saw three other Valks, stopped to gab with the owners, 2 were with the CMA, the other guy on a Bumble bee rode up from Ponca City.  He was a VRCC member, but I forgot his handle.  After I left I didn't feel like goin home, So I took a little trip up towards Nebraska, running through Manhattan on north.  Did some roads up in Marshall County, and cut back east through Pot co.(to hard to spell Pottowattime or whatever, besides it Kinda reminds me of what lot's of folks did there in the sixties) the to Jackson Co. and south back to Toepiker.  Ran through most of 3 tanks of gas, however far that is.
Had a good time.  Hoser cooldude

Hoser,

Glad you were able to throw your leg over your bike and go for a good long ride!!  2funny 2funny

I took my I/S out for a a ride on friday and saturday.  I met Willow at the Main Street Pub and Grill in Allen, Ks for a burger  cooldude   And yes  Eng it does exist.  Come to find out the Owner's husband had passed away last september so that explains the reason for them always being closed when we tried go their on a ride.

Rest in Peace Bob, he sure was a great guy.  I only met him a few times and the guy always had a smile on his face and his cup was always "full".   You'll be missed my friend!

Willow it's always good to catch the wind with you and next time I hope Motomama will be able to join us.

Then on Saturday my wife and I rode up to leavenworth and stopped at the high noon saloon for a burger and a warm cup of hot cocoa and coffee... Made it just in time to catch the first half of the Misery and Ku game...  Misery = Missouri Tigers  Roll Eyes      Had the fortunes of visiting with a MU fan and a T A&M allum..  both were good guys.  My wife is figuring out that I can make friends in any place that someone will hold a conversation with me.  As she told me outside while getting back on the bike, Quote "You can make a friend with anyone, I guess I need to be prepared for an hour delay anytime we go somewhere cause you always find someone to talk to on the way".    Grin Grin

On another note and Hoser Hit the nail on the head.  We need to plan a get together sometime in the near future.  Motomama had mentioned it and willow touched on it a bit but it sounds like we will have some out of state VRCC members in Olathe for a brief time coming up and I was thinking maybe we could try and get together for an evening and grab a bite to eat and visit.  Always good to see everyone...

Hope everyone is making it out of their hibernation after this bitter cold winter!  crazy2

Kiddo is out of school for the week but if anyone wants to ride this thursday I am available after 1pm, or we can ride in the morning.  I am closing on a house at noon but it looks like weather is going to be nice and warm (weather channel says sunny high 63 on thursday).  Let me know I'll meet for a ride.

I talked to hoser on the phone today and I think he might be in for a ride.   Also, looks like next mon, tues will be nice also.  I am working thurs, frid, sat nights so those days are out for me but anyone needing a riding buddy in kansas post it here and maybe someone can join you.

Have a great week everyone!!  Weather is getting better... I sure do miss all my Kansas vrcc buddies can't wait to get together here soon, I hope!

I'm with you, Brian.  The next good distance ride for some of us is Hotglue's BBQ mid April.  I'm not sure I can wait that long.

Ok Willow, you now have my undivided attention, Valkyries and BBQ are 2 of my top 5 favorite things.
When in April? With enough heads up I can (probably) get shift time traded if work conflicts.

As a side note (and shameless advertising plug) I will be hosting a charity breakfast in Wamego, KS on the 2nd Saturday of each month (Proceeds divided between the Wamego Masonic Lodge Building fund and local charities). If anyone is in the area we'd love see you and feed you, Details to follow.

Gathering 'O' the Fools 16 & 17 April, Friendswood Texas.  The BBQ will be first rate and the company can't be beat.  Mama and I will likely head that way Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning.

We live 45 miles apart Stude, yet I had to drive all the way to Colorado to meet you. I'm up for when ever, Needing reasons to ride. Too many honeydo's to take off on my own. If nothing else a short VRCC local member ride would be nice.

Hey, Studely, I'm headin to Pleasant Hill, Mo. in the morning to meet up for lunch with the KC area Romeos for lunch. 1st of May, I actually will be retired so I'll be legit.  Unless romeo mean retarded old motorcyclists eating out, instead of retired old motorcyclists eating out.  If that's case I'm already qualified!  2funny  2funny  Evil Hoser

So much for the warm weather.

I got about 80 miles running around yesterday before the snow rolled in. We got about 4 or 5 inches last night, and the crews are out dumping even more salt & sand on the roads.  tickedoff

If that makes you ill your really gonna hate the next few days, I think. I hear a nose dive in temperature and snow is coming again, like tomorrow or Thursday? Today is beautiful unfortunately I am on my way to work again so no ride for me. I did get 50 miles in yesterday as soon as I got home. It clouded up and cooled off as soon as I opened the garage door and started the Valk, went anyway it was needed! JDW

It really was nice to get the fat lady out and stretch her her legs today with my jacket in the saddlebag. I won't be back at work until Thursday.

It is too bad that it will not be nearly as nice tomorrow, one could really get used to this riding thing! coolsmiley

Well I met Stude31 and Hoser at Abilene about 10:30,  Smiley after some short lie telling we headed south on K15 to K4 where we headed east. Now it should be noted that a discussion was held about getting gas at Abilene, but it was determined everyone was "good to go" for the sixty miles to Council Grove where we would get fuel. Roll Eyes So off we took into the 20-35 mph south wind. Sad The trip was pretty uneventful till we got to the "Grove". Now, I hit reserve about 6 miles outside of town and it is generally excepted by this group I get the worse mpg of any Valk built. I have to admit I was wondering if I had made a miss calculation, but into town we went.  Smiley Next thing I know I am by myself, hum.  ??? Hoser shows up and waves me on, so I think okay Joe made a stop somewhere he'll catch up. I follow Hoser into the first gas station we see, seems Joe miscalculated on the Tourer he is so proud of! 2funny laugh Evil
Sweet!

Hoser and I get him some gas  angel and take it back and after some consoling, Roll Eyes or maybe it was ridicule, 2funny we are on the road again. Everyone full on fuel.  cooldude Then it is off to Allen, Ks. to the home of the always closed Main Street Grill.  ??? Now you have to understand Joe has been trying to get me here for almost a year bragging about these to die for burgers! Problem being everytime we head that way they are closed.  crazy2 So of course, it is still possible we are riding to a closed location for lunch, again.  Sad

As we pull into Allen I noticed vehicles in front  Wink so my hunger pains would soon be relieved, I hope. As we are walking in I noticed a bulletin on the door stating that they would be closed April 1st till the 5th.  ??? Gee, Joe looks like you just made it!!  Grin Cheesy I got to tell you if your ever in the area of Allen Kansas this is the place! cooldude The burger was worth all the effort to get there and Joe gets the Kudos for finding it for us!! Guess that means I will have to quit giving him grief about the fictious burger joint that is always closed!  coolsmiley laugh Shocked

After a great meal and some more lie telling it was time to waddle angel to the bikes and headout to do battle with the mighty Kansas south wind. Angry We all went different directions as we headed home.  Cry I had a great time with friends and a great meal, by the way thanks Hoser cooldude for picking up the tab! Next time Joe will get it, LOL! 2funny coolsmiley

It was just what the Dr. ordered for me, sure hope I relapse  Roll Eyes sooner than later!   coolsmiley JDW

PS I got pic's just got to figure out how to get them loaded.

I would have, but I was working Monday. Between training new paramedics and dealing with IT problems I've been chasing my tail all week. Firestarter wants to take her bike out for a ride tonight, so after I go pick up the newest Standard I suppose I'll have to go with her and stretch my Fat Lady's legs a bit.

No can do, Stude, gonna take my car to the Big Toepicker downtown cruise.  Missed you at Cassoday yesterday, were you back from Texas yet?  Saw a halfdozen or so Kansas Valkers, plus an Okie and a Texan.  Valkhound was there of course, had an intersting story about the Gold wing sidecar rig he sold.  Ya'll that I met, sound off if your'e on this board.
BTW you'll see a lot more cars in Topeka, thousand or more usually. Kansas Av 6th to 10th both sides and in the middle and all the side streets. Wouldn't be much of a ride for you, though!  2funny cooldude hoser

Bad weekends all month long for me. I have four graduation invitations on the mantle. I'll be in Manhattan on the 8th, El Dorado on the 15th, Wichita on the 17th, and don't remember when the last one is, but it's here in Wamego.

The up side is, I'll probably spend the whole weekend in the El Dorado/Augusta/Andover/Wichita area next weekend.

Hello all!
I just learned there was a Kansas thread so I thought I would come on over and introduce myself. I just purchased a 1999 I/S in the green. Rode her home from Northern California last week. I am absolutely LOVING this bike. Previously rode a 1500 Goldwing and while I will never have anything bad to say about the 'wings they just don't compare to the Valks (as I'm sure you all know).
I live in Valley Falls (between Topeka and Atchison on K4 hwy) and work in Topeka. I was averaging approx 10k miles per year on the Goldwing and I don't see that decreasing any with this bike.
The next few weekends are pretty booked for me (mothers day, graduations etc.) so I don't know when in the near future I'll make it out but some friends and I have a small meet and greet planned for Memorial day weekend and if you can't make it to any of the other great events planned let me know. We still have a few rooms left at the resort we booked. It will be at Milford Lake and should be an absolute ball. We have people coming in from as far away as Georgia but mostly Kansas folks.

This seems like a really great group of people and I can't wait to meet many of you. Take care and be safe.

Hey Ty,

Welcome! I live in North Newton and have a really wicked work schedule but ride when I can. I will be at Stude31's in Topeka this Thursday and Friday wrenching on my bike with him. Get a chance stop by I'm sure Joe will have some kind of lies to tell us. The Kansas group is growing in the last year and we are trying to get it more active so keep in touch I think we will be getting some rides together shortly, got any ideas throw them out we'll see what developes.
