??? Since the temps have gotten cold, My Valk starts right up, dies once and then restarts and stays running. Anyone else having this happen? Runs fine after that but didn't do it when it was warm

Mine would die when starting cold, and stay running on the restart. I always thought maybe the carbs needed a sync, but, it ran so good, and got great gas mileage, so I didn't worry about it. Being fuel injected, I would talk to the dealer, as it shouldn't do that. cooldude

Water in the fuel caused by the usage of ethanol.  Seafoam and all will be groovy.

My wife's fuel injected 2013 750 Honda Shadow has always done that, even in warm weather sometimes. Usually I can catch it by bumping the throttle as soon as it starts and it will stay running.

Same scenario occurs on cars and here is the reason and cure:

Fuel pressure bleeds off while the engine is off.

Most people turn on the key and soon thereafter crank over the starter.
Poor start result occurs as described.

Instead, make it a habit (for the first cold start on ANY fuel injected vehicle) to turn the key ON, wait 3 seconds (the fuel pump runs for about that long to build up fuel pressure) then turn the key back to OFF.

Turn the key back ON and wait for the full 3 seconds, THEN crank the starter.

Your result should be a delightful first start, no stall and restart never required because with TWO attempts for the fuel pump to build up pressure, you will typically get a good first start.

If you want to get into WHY the fuel pressure bleeds down, well...leaky injector(s), leaky fuel pump check valve, leaky fuel pressure regulator (if installed, meaning it's NOT a pulse-width modulated fuel pump signal), etc.

I ride so much that my poor 2000 Ford truck sits for weeks. I can prime my fuel system 3X and then crank the starter and I swear literally just bump it to the Crank position and that old truck is running.

The upsides are less wear and tear on your starter and less depletion of your battery with long / repetitive cranks.

coolsmiley I'll give it a try. I do have non-ethanol gas in it as we are fortunate enough to have 2 gas stations that carry it. Thanks for the help
