The choice I'd say isn't there.

I don't mind an OEM seat, if it were comfy. I have a very boney ass, and traded the OEM seat out for a Corbin. I've not noticed a difference in comfort of one over the other. I'll be installing highway pegs and trying out the Corbin seat and the OEM seat and seeing if with different leg position will there be a notable difference between the two seats.. I don't believe there will be.

I replaced mine before I got my handlebars and hiway pegs worked out.

My OEM has a utopia backrest, I'm not sure it wouldn't be OK now...

I really like the Corbin, though it is kind of hard by the end of a tank of gas...

I dont care who makes the seat but I want one that is comfortable and looks good. The Corbin is about as good looking as it gets and I find it very comfortable. The OEM seat you sit on top of but the Corbin you sit in, that alone makes quite a bit of difference. The support if you plant your butt all the way back in the pocket of the seat is very good.

Lips Sealed There is a guy selling a gel pad that attaches with Velcro straps on ebay I may try. It looks like it would be good for long day rides. Ebay item no. 151915558948

I don't have a problem with the OEM seat. I've sat on worse!
My only complaint is it gets a little warm (and soft) in hot weather.

Here is my fix.

I hate the oem seat.  I can only ride for about an hour on that piece of crap until my tail bone and butt starts to hurt.  If it wasn't for my air hawk I wouldn't have been able to do much riding this year.

I decided that it was time for a good seat, so I have sent my piece of crap oem seat to Russell to be redone.  I have a date of Jan 12 for the seat to be done.  I was hoping that the CAD was going to get better, but it seems to be getting worst, so I just bit the bullet, and sent it out today.  I have always wanted a Russell Daylong seat, and now I will have one.

I considered the Corbin seat that is on eBay, but the Russell seat was only a few hundred more, and it will be brand new, never sat in.  Just have to break it in.

My BMW came with a Corbin and I hated it , too hard and slippery  , used the OEM  seat .

Have read complaints 'bout the same thing  , Corbin's too hard  .

Never read anything bad 'bout  Russell Day Long seats  .    If I were a long distance rider , Russell day long is what I would use , or Meyer seats , not a Corbin .

There are lots of alternatives  to Corbin

That's just my opinion

I am also looking for a new seat.  The stock seat isn't bad as long as I stay seated in the forward portion of the seat, if I scoot back too far then the width of the seat causes me discomfort on the insides of my legs.

My problem with all these replacement seats is that they make an assumption about my build as they all move you up and back - as if I'm tall and fat  laugh  That really !&#$ me the @!!!!! off.  I'm growing tired of this entire industry automatically assuming that every male is over-average height at 6 foot or greater.  So until some $%&! seat company understands this, and actually makes comfortable seats that average height riders feel comfortable on, they can suck wind and I'm keeping my money in my pocket.

I know Russell ( and many other seat companies  ) wnats  several photos of you on your bike  so they can make the necessary adjustments
They are not assuming anything , it's a custom fit  , if it ain't right , send it back for adjustments .
Better yet , drive in  and get it done right in person

The Russell web site definitely states that the Day-Long is higher than stock and a bit wider, too - butt not to my liking.  I want same height, narrower in width where it meets my thighs, greater 'cup' in the shape, good cushioning (a bit softer) and same shape at the nose for easy foot-planting.

They can do that , it's a custom seat , made to your liking , if you do not specify ,  they will build it like what you read on their site

Here's  where I was going to go  for a custom seat   , decided the drive there was too much on my BMW.
Well , really it was I 40  that was too much ,  it's a rough  road

No doubt we are all different and therefore why we will not all be happy with the same seat. I went Corbin and I think it is a really good looking seat and I was so worried about my bony rear however now that I have 4000 + miles and the seat is broken in I am totally happy and have no complaints even after riding an entire day.  I feel that the seat fits me very well and I like being stretched out. Here is one of the most important observations I have made with the Corbin seat, if I did not have highway pegs and my position was the same throughout the entire ride I would not be giving the same positive report. I have noticed that the Corbin seat is far better and more comfortable when on the highway pegs and that is where I find myself most of the time.

No opinion here. My body starts aching all over to include my posterior rear exterior and interior when I put in the miles. I'm also 35, and have some ways to go before I get towards the *cough* vintage butt.  Grin

Not sure how many of you have vintage butt, but it would surely factor into liking the seat.

Changed mine out to a Corbin. Sucked also. Called them to send back and agreed to modify the seat. Softened it and fixed the issue with side panel removal and seat much improved. Not the best but OK. Russell is only way to go. Design is over 100 yrs old. A saddle. Who would have thought? Design eases stress on your calfs and is designed to put pressure on your whole bottom mostly your cheeks. Not your tail bone. I had a Russell seat on my last bike and was as advertised. Man do I miss that seat.  I have the gel pad and air hawk both end up with same problem. Serious tush burn after about an hour. Some use those wood beaded seat covers and swear by them? But to each there own.

I looked at them as well, but I still like the look of a Russell seat.  Plus, everyone who has had one has good things to say.

Before I sent my seat into Russell I had to send them several pictures, and they called me to confirm that the pictures were good for them to use before I sent my seat in.  They also do not get payment until they are finished the seat, and ready to send it back.  I have called them several times, and someone always answers my questions right away.  Really good customer service.  KonTour seats not so much.  I called them, sent them an email, and I finally heard from them a week later.  I know that if I have problems Russell will take care of it.   cooldude

I looked into these, but there isn't an option for a backrest for the passenger, so that was a no go for me.

That was the other nice thing about Russell, they will incorporate my Utopia driver's backrest into the new seat.  Saves me some more money.

I had the opportunity to sit on this modified Corbin and it really had a lot more padding than mine.  Corbin buyers consider this option when making the new purchase.  Talk to Tallrider on this.

I'll have to look at them again.  For example, IIRC Russell said that all their designs have the wings, and this cannot be changed; I don't need those super-wide wings because the rear of the seat is currently wide enough to fully encompass my full rear.  Making the seat even wider than it is now will only make my discomfort worse if the front is kept at the current shape.  I would need Russell to make the wings no wider than the current seat's width, and I don't think that is at all possible for then to do.

I want a gunfighter seat, like my Vulcan.  Same overall design, about the same seating shape but just with better foam.  The tractor seat on my Shadow was about the most comfy ever, replicating that would be great.  Everyone but Corbin uses the stock seat pan which means that I can't get what I want: a gunfighter that fits a guy 5'8" and is super comfy.  I currently sit 1.25 inches forward of the rear edge of the seat and Corbin just moves you back.

The Corbin would not be so popular if there were a lot of (different brand) options available.  Example: Ulitmate, Sargent, Mustang and saddlemen come to mind.   And now that the first RDL is in pictures and we will soon have reports..............

And so glad to be forgiven  cooldude

I considered the Kontour because they are in Arizona , however , you can not slide around on a Kontour .
You can not adjust your position  because the material they use does not allow you to  slide your butt .

It's like  , well , not sure how to describe it , , scratchy ,  , sandpaper-ish ,

What is the overall cost of the Russell?

My seat came to $790 with the shipping back to me.  That also includes recovering my Utopia backrest.

I'm thinking that backrest may assist in reducing my lower back pain. My butt is fine after rides, it is mostly lower back for me for whatever reason!

everyones rump is different from all others, and seat comfort is a matter of options, posture, leg length to hwy pegs, solo vs 2up,and miles ridden between potty breaks.....for me so far the stock seat has been ok... not saying its the best, just ok,I like to ride only about 200 miles between stops and usually not more than 600 miles per day... I ride to enjoy what I see, not blast from here to eternity, as fast as possible..... Just my thoughts... I got the bike for the looks and the motor so some things you just have to except, I wouol rather spend $500 to $600 on a nice trip and stay at nice places than on a seat to make my ass feel good.....    wishing a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all ride on life is good

My butt starts to hurt after only a half hour on the stock seat, and it is hurting bad after an hour.  My old valk seat was great for me.   I could ride for hours with it, and have no problems, but after about 8 years I had to change it.  If it wasn't for my airhawk I don't know how I could have rode the bike as much as I did last year.  I am really looking forward to getting my seat back from Russell.  My build date is Jan. 12, and I have already sent them my seat.  I will post pics when I get it back.
