Got the lines in. I looked it over and I see the end that attaches to caliper is staright forward. But the upper end that attaches to a 90 degree elbow. Then that goes to the other side with a 90. How does this fit? I have seen were some of you have installed these and I need help with the how too. Thank you.

I've never used the Russell but I just installed Galfer SS brake lines and they fit and look great.

This thread just cost me a couple hundred $$$.

Was looking at getting a set of Galfer lines for each of my Valkyries - '99 Tourer and '01 I/S. $260/set - which includes clutch lines - is pricy but doable.

The link above netted me BOTH brake line sets for less than the price of one set of the Galfers. Still need the clutch lines...but the stoppers are covered.

I installed the Russell front setup years ago and it looks good and is solid. Also have Russell clutch and rear brake lines as well. Looks good....to me anyway.  cooldude

Russell.

Front, rear brake line and clutch line kits. The OEMs are still on the bikes and I figure they're getting a bit stretchy after all these years.

Was planning on doing it next year but catching these on sale motivated me to do it earlier.

Yes, there's a little mounting "stay" used on the OEM system at the right front distribution block, I reused that. Mounted it in the same spot and bolted the Russell block to it. I'd take a picture but then I'd have to clean it first.  Grin

Please post the "dirty" pic as I'd like to see the setup.

Ha ha. Funny John. So is the hose going to the right a short crossover like original oem or does it travel down to the caliper ?

It goes directly to the caliper, no crossover like the OEM.

Galfer are four line with blocks on both sides, like OEM.

Cleaner look in my opinion.

Oh carp...probably should have gone with the Galfers. I'll try the Russells and see how they work.

Yes.  The Galfer lines are good, but with the Russell setup you have 2 fewer connections to cause problems such as leaks of either air or fluid....or both.

Every cloud has a silver lining...and I have a question about the Russells:

Any issues with fender rub from the left side line being unsupported like it is?

Another question regarding the Galfers for anyone who has them:

They're a "4 line setup". I assume this is one line from master cylinder to right-side tee, one line to right side brake, a small crossover line to the left side fitting and one more to the left side brake...?

I'm also curious about the left-side fitting. Simple 90 degree elbow or is it a duplicate of the right side, albeit with a plug in the top-most port?

The left side is a duplicate of the right with a bleeder fitting on the top.

Interesting.

If the Russell setup causes me any grief with regards to line positioning, it seems easy enough to convert it to the same arrangement as the Galfers...assuming I can buy a couple of their tee fittings. The required hoses are stock items.

Filed away in the "food for thought" department.

I had the three line setup. Hated that floppy long line so replaced that with the stock lines back. Think I'll look for the Galfers.

Diving back into this:

Did either Galfer or Russell provide a parts list with their kits? Let's say I want to order two of the chrome tees from either manufacturer to convert the Russell arrangement to a spanned setup...any way to contact them for replacement parts?

I did find one from Pacific Customs and it looks to be a fairly close match for the Russell tee, albeit in brass (rather than chrome) finish.

ETA:

Spoke with Russell tech support, who referred me to Galfer for the "T-Block" fittings. Their P/N is D0127 - standard 10x1.0mm threading, so the Pacific Customs part will work. I'll get the numbers for the Russell crossover and right brake lines for anyone wanting to convert their Russell style setup to a Galfer.

Russel is only a 3 line setup but only 2 parts. The upper and right caliper lines are permantely affixed to the block and then you attach left caliper to the block. I got mine installed and looks good. I don't have any flopping around. Comes with a line support that replaces the larger ones from oem.

Excellent - this is what I'm looking for...and I see that one can't convert the setup to a 4-line regardless.

Mine should be here in a week or two. Then just wait til the weather warms up enough to install them on both bikes.
