I'm starting this new thread to help those of of us with our inherit obsessions, problems, and Valkyrie related dependencies. I have often times found myself feeling alone and isolated, and am offering a place for others to reach out so that they know that they are not alone.

This will be an Anonymous international fellowship of men and women who have a Valkyrie related problem. It is non-professional, self-supporting, multiracial, and apolitical forum. I want you to also know it is safe here. Please feel free to contribute.

I too am a Valk aholic. I hope there is no cure. My Valk is darkside and I am proud. It calls to me when it has a need for speed our just fresh air. It also has a fire breathing dragon on the handlebars. It is my riding buddy.  I know there are others out there.

I  am a Valkoholic, though I only got my first Valkyrie this past November.  I have obsessed over Valkyries since 1996, but could never afford one.  I currently indulge in my addiction with a fast black Interstate, that I think may have a bit of an exhaust leak...but I still love her.  I hope to stay addicted for life!

Yeah, I'm one of those too. I've not been shy about sharing my feelings or details of my own addiction on this board, so I won't go into any detail right now. Suffice it to say that she and I became a couple January 7, 1999, and we've been essentially inseparable ever since. (There was a close call about two years ago, however...)

We've now shared over 511K miles together, and we're just getting started! In fact, she and I are headed out in the morning for another road trip... There is no known cure for our condition... Even if there were, I'd refuse treatment!!!

I feel you Bruce.  It's gotten so bad I have been using work to get me to ride more.  I arranged to work in Houston the week before the GOTF, and picked up work in Austin the week after. All so I can get some BBQ!

Hi. My name is Patrick. And I am a Valkholic. It started when I was stopped at a traffic light and this yellow and white motorcycle with 3 and 3 exhaust pipes came along side of my work truck. Oh, my. Lovely sound. As he sped away, I knew that soon, as soon as possible,  I would have one. It didn't matter what color or year or model. As soon as I could get online, the frame was purchased. Then a tank. And almost just as soon, fenders. And a fairing. Well, you know how it goes. Past the point of no return. At first, it was just the basic pieces. And then the gleaming chrome. The engine was in there someplace. But that memory is a little fuzzy.
Just about the time that I could actually ride it legally, I found out that the 15th annual Valkyrie owners club was going to happen just a couple months away. I was going. I went. And had a blast.
Yes, I am. A Valkoholic.
And enjoying every moment. cooldude

Hi I'm a Valkaholic, it started when I was looking at OTHER GSX 1100g Suzis for sale and the poster of the ad said the reason for selling is he bought a Valkyrie. Ok throw bottles or stones here.  uglystupid2  I had never heard of a Valkyrie so I punched in Valkyrie on eBad and that very second I said I must have one! Well I have had 4 now and when my friend Mike and my bro-in-law saw my first Valk they both bought one.

My Dad owned the Valk before me.  Often times we would wonder where is Dad. And of course we would find him in the garage fiddling or polishing the Valk (I called it "rubbing on the Valkyrie").

Now that I am a Valkoholic often my family finds me out in the garage rubbing on the Valkyrie. I find this time quite soothing. The old gurl, just listens,  never gives me any lip, and is oh so purtty to look at. I know,  I know it's a sickness, so don't judge me.

I have a confession.  In preperations for my ride to the GOTF,  I have spent hours fiddling with and fine tuning the windshield, handlebars, highway pegs, backrest, tire pressure, packing and repacking tools, first aid kit, emergency repair odds & ends, changing the oil, and wiring a USB power outlet when I could have most likely just jumped on the bike and left.

I found my post from a previous Valkaholics post..    copy/paste
It's all still true!! cooldude

My_Story

I've been riding for 43 years. I started with a 305 Honda super hawk. Moved up to a Honda 500 four cylinder. That was so smooth and quiet but then I saw a girl riding her 750. I had to have one. I'm not sure what prompted me to want a goldwing but I bought a 1000 cc wing which held me for 23 years. I was at the honda shop to see about a new stator when the parts guy asked if I wanted to test drive the Valkyrie. Absolutely! That was Friday night and on Saturday morning I was there with a check in hand. I bought a new 1999.It was the end of the year so I got a pretty good deal.OOOOH! the power, the speed, the smooooth response, the speed.! When you work more than 15 hours a day there isn't much time for riding but you do what you have to do. A few years later I couldn't work any more. Back surgery, new hip, and arthritis every where. I had to stop bicycling, skiing, kayaking, camping hiking, sailing. After 35 years riding motorcycle, was this the end of that too? Yes,it hurts to ride. I thought I was down to 50 miles a day but I adjusted the shocks and things got better. Then I got a corbin seat with the rise behind me. That gave me better support for the back. Now, when I go for a ride I just have to play it by rear. (pun intended) On a good day I've hit a high as 400 miles. Some times I keep going knowing I will pay for it later. I don't care. A little pain is worth the enjoyment. I'd rather ride than spend time with my friends or family. Does that make me a Valkoholic? I have 95,000 miles on the bike now and if the weather holds up and my body holds up I hope to break 100,000 this year. I could explain how I feel when riding but if you own a Valkyrie you already know. You already know.

The following link will get you to the other thread.

Funny story, I bought a new 98 Standard, my Helicopter Doctor, chief mech at Petroleum Helicopters had a 600 CC Honda crotch rocket. I would ride the Valk to work and try to get him to ride it, but no way.  I even got the Valk sales brochure and stapled it above his desk.  This went on for a year and finally one day he said if it will shut you up I will ride it.  Sure enough when he got back he was googly eyed, and two weeks later he owned a 97 Tour, told me he couldn't sleep, that he had to have one.  That was Valkyrie John, and he still has the Tour with about 275 thousand on the clock, and she still looks like new.  It was the green and crème, but he painted it a beautiful dark metallic green and we put in glasspacks so it sounds as good as it looks.  Oh he also upgraded the 600 with a Hayabusa.

Guess i am too. Loved my VTX, but always wanted an I/S. Retired LEO in town had bought one, put 1800 miles on it and got sick. She sat for 7 years. His wife called me and said come look at it, see if you want it. I had my doubts if it was an I/S, but when we pulled 7 years worth of crap and tools and everything else off her, there was my Interstate.  She's pretty plain-jane, but I got time to fancy her up...runs like a top, no surprise there I know.
When I bought it the wife rolled her eyes and said, another bike??? I assured her this one will outlast me.

I too am a Valkaholic. Mine came to be when me and the wife had been out for a putt on my shadow and when we pulled into the Garage she got off and said we need a bigger bike Shocked so I pulled back out of the garage and went straight to the dealer and test rode my 97 Bee for about ten miles turned around went back and told them to fill out the paper work 2funny when I got home I asked the wife if she thought it was big enough Roll Eyes since the purchase of her I have also had a VTX 1800 and a Hardley Abelson street glide ( sold that to buy my Interstate cooldude) no matter what other bikes I have had she is my favorite.  coolsmiley

My name is Mike, and I'm a Valkaholic. It all started back in 2010 when I worked on my uncle's Valkrie. After I fixed his bike, we went riding. I was hooked. Got my own a few months later, and haven't looked back. I don't think that there's a cure for Valkaholicism.  Roll Eyes

My name's Rick and I'm a Valkaholic.  I promised my wife I would stop at just one but I found I couldn't stop so the I/S has the company of a Standard.  I don't dare tell her I often dream of a Tourer.

Hello, my name is Ron, aka: Rams.   I am a Valkaholic.  It started when I saw that first Honda Valkyrie commercial.............   You know the one I mean.   I was immediately hooked!   Took me years to put myself into a position to actually get one.    She is my drug of choice.

I won't say she gets rode hard and put up wet but, she does look like that at times.   While I've been tempted by new bikes that will out handle and out perform her, nothing I've seen can cast a shadow on her looks.    When combined, Honda built a motorcycle just for me.   Thank you Honda, I sincerely appreciate you filling that void in my life.   Kiss

My Name is Dean (aka Wingman) and I'm a new Valk Addict Cheesy.  I'm obsessed with my "New" Valk that I had for less than 2 months.  I look at the classified ads on here daily , fleabay, CL, thinking of new items to add to her.  I'm constantly listening and looking for other Valks in the area.  Whenever I walk out into my garage, I pick up my polishing rag without thought and give it a wipe down.  My bottle of wax is getting near the bottom Undecided.  I'm always looking for fingerprints on the paint, I want to see the chrome shine like a mirror.   My GW trike just sighs as I don't touch it like I do the Valk  Sad.  My wife looks at me funny now, wondering if I have a mistress  Cry.    I'm just thankful that she enjoys riding on the back of it and understands the need of having to submit to the bike's needs and whims cooldude.

I'm constantly going out to run errands, even when I don't need to, just to feel the Valk under me.  I feel the need to hear the 6 in 6 pipes softly popping as I throttle off going downhill. Why do I smile behind my helmet whenever I have another rider come up to me and ask what I'm riding and then see the envy in their eyes?  Why does my heart race whenever some young pup, driving a "hopped up" car with a fart can muffler, gets his ass handed to him by the Valk between the lights?  Why do HD riders fear to be next to the Fat Girl?       So many questions

So how is this going to work?  Do we all put our bikes in a circle, and rev them up when we are called to speak?   Will we have a moderator?  Is gas and oil going to be served in lieu of cookies and coffee?

I hope that I can never get over this addiction.  Please don't tell me there is a cure

I have been riding since 1972. My first was a BSA 650, then I bought a Honda 750 and it lasted me for 5 years. I took a break from motorcycles while the kids were young, I just did not feel comfortable thinking about what would happen to the wife and 4 kids if I was to wipe out.

About 1995 when my youngest was in HS I bought a GL1000. I really liked that bike but it had been rode hard and put up wet so I ended up selling it.

Shortly afterward I found a GL1200, I really liked that one also, but ended up selling it when an offer I could not refuse came along.

I took the money and bought a GL1500. Really loved that bike, soo smooth and powerful, but again an offer I could not refuse came along and I took it.

I bought another GL1000, (still have that one in moth balls)

I started thinking I wanted a GL1200 standard as the only reason I did not like the 1500 wing was all the tupperware. Well, I could not find a naked 1200 in good shape so I started gravitating toward the Valkyrie. I had actually always wanted a Valk since they came out. I looked a a few, and then I found a very low mile standard and the owner gave me everything he had with the bike for a great price.

I came home and told my lovely wife about it and all she said was "you bought another motorcycle?"
My answer to her was

"NO, I just bought my last motorcycle!"

I don't ride it as much as I should, but I have never thought about selling it.
So yes, I am a Valkaholic!

Hi my name is Draeger. I'm a Valkoholic.

I was sitting in a bar two years ago with my friend Ian. I said "Dude, if you could have just one motorcycle for the rest of your life, which one would it be?"

He said "Probably a Honda Valkyrie." I said, "Really, what's that?"

Then I sat there for the next 15 minutes listening to him tell me why.

That night I went home and spent hours on this forum. Two weeks later I bought a '98 standard off a guy a couple hours after he listed it on Craigslist.

Some people think I bought a problem. It's especially bad in winter.

In business meetings I find people having to ask me things twice because I'm daydreaming about replacing my Valk's exhaust.

When I look at my computer mouse cable, it sometimes looks like my Valk throttle cable and then I just end up staring blankly at my mouse until my colleagues start laughing.

I make motorcycle noises walking around the office when I go around corners and the secretary looks at me really funny.

When I get home and my kids crawl on my lap and say "Daddy, your eyes look like my teddy bear's eyes - all glassy and staring" I just mumble something about needing to go out and make sure I turned my petcock off for the fourth time.

Everyone is hoping spring comes soon.
