Too nice of a day not to ride... I did a few chores this morning, and then called up
my buddy Dennis to see if he was interested. He said he was building a chicken
coop. I told him he should have free range chickens, but he would have none of
it... here's an old picture of his Confederate Valkyrie...

I headed up 178, one of the curvy roads north of Hwy. 11...

And past the Road Kill Grill, there's always a bunch of Harleys there and
guys drinking beer...

on up 178 towards Rocky Bottom...

At Rocky Bottom you can cut off on this pig trail through the laurel forest...

And arrive at South Carolina's highest point: Sassafras Mountain, 3,554 feet elevation.

You can walk out on the platform you see in this picture and get a look at the
panoramic view...

If you view this picture full size, you can get an idea of the view... the lake to the
right is South Carolina's lake that sort of looks like a Christmas Tree, and the lake to
the left is South Carolina's lake that sort of looks like, I don't know... a warthog or
something

From there you can either go back down to Rocky Bottom, or go on the almost totally
untraveled Glady Fork road... which I did... these roads remind me of a ribbon
laid out through the hills... and out of South Carolina into North Carolina...

From there I hit East Fork in the direction back towards South Carolina...

The steepness and the lack of traffic makes it inevitable that you'll run into
a pack of these crazy people...

And finally a nice set of switchbacks at "Big Hill" before the battery in the
little camera ran out...

Summer's almost here!
