Just before InZane I (well the Prez and the independent HD dealer next to his garage) mounted a Yokohama Avid Envigor 205/60R16 92V on my IS. $109 at a local tire dealer. Ask your tire dealer for PN 32122. It works great, nice round edges about the same height as the stock tire. Needed the cage mod on the right rear cage. I put about 1500 miles on it with no issues. YMMV.  Yokohama compared to a Dunlop E3.

second the yakohama envigor, put it on to replace my other CT in Feb. just came back from a 6290 mile ride with it. handles great. better then my old general HP it replaced.

Austone Taxi Tire Just got back from Inzane on first long trip with tire and loved it. Great on dry and wet as well as curves

I didn't know there was such a thing as a $55 tire.  It looks pretty good too. it handles pretty good too. I have around 7k on it + unknown mileage from po. noticeable wear from when I got it but i've never gotten much more than 7k out of a mc tire.

I just mounted a Yoko ..... going on the bike today or tomorrow....

There was a Ziex on Bertha when I bought her, it handled like a wooden wagon wheel in comparison to the Austone I replaced it with.

better traction, cheaper, easier availability . The slow speed is initially different but I don't even notice it now.

Just replaced Goodyear ATT with 44,300 miles on my '97 tourer with the Envigor. And replaced Dunlop MC tire on '99 tourer with Envigor. The Envigor handling is much better than the Goodyear, so I'm pleased.

I've been running the Metzler 880. Went thru three of them averting 9,000 miles. I researched the dark side for two years before I took the plunge. I rode a friends that had a CT and it sucked. Hard to steer in to a turn. Then heard about the Auston taxi tire. I was about to take a long interstate trip and knew it would do in my Metzler so I thought this would be a good test. As soon as I pulled out of the drive I knew I would like it. It sits up a little higher (about 2") but reduces the RPM's about 200. I've rode the Dragon, the Snake, Moonshiners Run, and in the rain dragging the pegs all the way! I've got around 5.000 miles on it and no show of wear.

Yes they do. Rain grooves on concrete highways make the bike wiggle a bit. You have to keep a more positive steering input on bends as the bike will try to stand up. You can feel the transition from flat to edge as you lean the bike. After having a car tire on my ST1300 for a west coast and back trip I replaced it with a M/C tire and found for about the first hour I was over correcting the steering due to the quicker response to a M/C tire by a fraction of a second. The car tire will last longer but that's no excuse for not doing regular maintenance to the rear end.

I'm on my second Yokohama Avid Envigor 205/60R16 92V and I will run these tires as long as I can get them. Good traction and round profile. I've ran car tires on three different valks and have over 150K miles on CTs.

Yes they do. Rain grooves on concrete highways make the bike wiggle a bit. You have to keep a more positive steering input on bends as the bike will try to stand up. BradValk48237, that is what I love about the Yoko...none of the low speed issues I had with the Riken Raptor I was running...I loved the Raptor in the twisties but it sucked at low speeds...I run 38 psi in mine...works great...

Hey Brad, I run my advid at 34 pounds all the time. Unless im loaded down with a bunch of luggage then I run it at 36.

Britman, I've gone thru 4 car tires...the first three were Riken Raptors...got about 15,000 out of them running 38-40 psi...they wore even across the treads...I don't run a ct for high mileage...IMO a ct performs better on a Valk than a mc tire....

Run all my Goodyear Assurance Triple Treds (no longer in favor but just fine for me) at 40PSI, and have even tread wear all across... even the first to finally wear out at 37K. (wasn't shot, but it was time for service, and a new one seemed warranted)

Hi Ken. I have a long time on both before I need a new CT. I'm not totally reactionary and may try a Yokohama next (I run them on my Dodge). Specs and tread look somewhat similar to GATT. Little softer compound, more rounded shoulder, 3 pounds lighter. The Goodyear has a much better rating in the snow, not that I care.

I ran my first CT. A Cooper Zeon2 at 40psi and got 24,000 out of it before the center wore out. Ever since the 36psi cold and I get about 26,000 or better. I like the softer compound tires better as they seem to stick a little better.

My first car tire 205/65-16 will be this one very soon. E3 is getting close to wear bars. http://www.laufenn.com/us/front/us_front/gfit.do#laufen is no frills brand by Hankook I personally saw it and took measurements of the unmounted tire. From outside to outside of the four treads is 4 inches and then both sides taper down equally to the rounded edges.

Have you looked for an independent car tire place? That's what I use. Of course I have to take the wheel off the bike and take it to them with new tire. That way i get to make sure everything is cleaned and lubed correctly before installing the wheel.

As near as can calculate the Austone is a 175/80-16 thus 5mm/.200 narrower & 28mm/1.100 larger dia. (14mm/.550 less clearance under fender) Now it seems I read in the past that there was some inner fender mods to be made? I strongly considering this tire in the future.

For everyone that doesn't know what the Cabot Trail is, it is like the Canadian East coast version of the Dragon.  Not the crazy amount of corners, but most of the corners are marked for 30km/h and there is frequently a 500+ft cliff on the other side of the guardrail.

I got mine mounted at an independent car tire place...his only concern was clearance on the machine and voila done...he will get my car tire business as well...and I am running Toyo Proxes R1R 205/55-16 with 140 AA A

The inner fender mods amount to the removal of the nut cages on the sides of the fender. The Austone Taxi Tire, being narrow, does not require this mod...
