I have recently purchased an Areostich Ear cannon air horn and although I am mechanically inclined I really have to scratch my head when that electrical stuff comes along. Would anybody out there who has attached such a horn to their bike, please give me a blow by blow description ( as I am wanting to attach it as close to the origional location for the new horn, do you  or did you remove your tank to route wires, and if so how and where did you route them.... describing it as if you were walking me through it step by step etc....stuff like that) as to how they attached their horn. Really the only help I need is as to how to route the wires to and from the horn.  I have heard that the rectifer is and isn't needed(?). Is it or not and if so how  do I connect it?  I mean like  attach this wire to this wire and then to horn etc.  I know to some this may seem "Very elementry my dear Watson," but as I said, I am bit leary of eletrical stuff, and if you hook the wrong wire...smoked again!   So any help woul be greatly appreciated! Let me know who would be willing to help me out and I will forward an email address! Thanks a million

here is a link to Chet Walters' page with basic relay information on wiring up a relay.  The OEM horn has a wire that has 12V applied when you press the horn button and a ground.  The wire that has 12V applied will be your relay trigger.  I mounted some el cheapo air horns underneath the swingarm and pulled the trigger wire back from the OEM location and spliced on a longer wire to get to the relay which I mounted underneath the right side cover.  You will need a fuse inline to the relay, a ground for the relay which you can pick up underneath a bolt on the frame, a trigger lead and an output from the relay to the hot lead of the horn.  You can test it all  out before your mount everything permanent.
I took the front and rear tank bolts out and moved the tank over to the left and ran the wire up underneath the right side.  If I were to do it again I would just remove the tank, it is not that hard.
PM me if I can help.
