Hello, Folks

Have posted on the General Board in this regard and was told to post here as well for more ideas...

The wife and I hope to spend just a bit over two weeks riding the bikes to/from Key West around the first of October.  Hope to spend three nights in Key West and spend a night in Islamorada and Marathon - one on the way and one on the return.  These are short hops so we'll get there early enough to take in some sights.

Have gotten some good ideas on which route to take from Atlanta (where we'll be attending a Carolina Panthers game with friends) to Homestead, dining spots en route, as well as where to stay in Key West.  But, we're having difficulty finding decently priced lodging in Islamorada and Marathon.  It's just a one night stay, but we like to stay somewhere we can walk to a decent restaurant serving adult beverages. Wink

Any ideas from you Florida folks??  Other thoughts about our trip are welcome as well. cooldude

We stayed at Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club
Address: 1996 Overseas Hwy, Marathon, FL 33050
Phone: (305) 743-9018 at least twice however not sure of price these days.

I know Kim and Eddie are frequent flyers to the keys maybe they will chime in?

Also are you interested in the routes everyone takes heading to NC? I know Jack, Pappy and many others head from here to you and know back roads.

let us know when you might be in the central Florida area maybe we can meet up.

We've been to the Keys on bikes numerous times.
On Marathon we liked the Banana Bay resort & on Key Colony. We mostly stayed in KW.
On Islamorada we have been to the Lookout Lodge and the Sands of Islamorada. Both old school Keys places. Lookout is right at MM88 Gulfside and the Sands is around MM84 Atlantic side.

Riding the Keys should be all on all bikers bucket list!

Progress!  Thanks to ALL for their suggestions  cooldude

At this point we are booked at the Sands on Islamorada and Banana Bay in Marathon.

Angelina's Guest House in Key West could not accommodate us for all three nights of our stay without changing rooms to a shared bath on Day 3.  We have booked what appears to be a nice room at the Jasmine House near Duval pretty much in the center of things.

We are going to be visiting friends in Kissimmee after our trip to the Keys, but we would be interested in the non-interstate route back to NC from there if the logistics work out.

We will be in Key West October 6-8, and will be leaving Kissimmee for home on October 14 - probably an overnight to get back to NC.

Thanks again!

Well, looks like you will be in my hood for some time, I'll get some route suggestions to NC for you and maybe we can hook up for a RTE with the rest of the Valk gang  cooldude

We would really enjoy that - perhaps we've shaken hands with some of the Florida group at a recent Inzane but right now we don't recall.

Hope it can all work out.  Battling some hot, rainy NC weather right now and an October bike trip to the Keys and back is really sounding nice.

Ride safely, until then...

Well, BikerGirl and I made it as far as Atlanta this past weekend (catching a terrible Carolina Panthers game with friends) before deciding to turn back for home and end our motorcycle trip to the Keys and greater Florida.

Who would have expected a storm of such intensity and duration in the Caribbean this time of year?

We appreciate all who offered suggestions for our trip on both the Florida and General Board.  It appears most if not all of our reservations were able to be cancelled without penalty.  We do hate that the possible hookup in the Kissimmee area for introductions and handshakes didn't get to happen.

Finally, we hope all of you along with your lovely state are spared from the worst effects of Hurricane Matthew.  My wife and I hope to consider this trip again same time next year.

Hope to see many of you at Inzane XVII.  Ride safely!

That was the only logical choice at this point, no need to risk anything and having to put up with all the craziness going on down south.

I am in Central Florida and pretty much stocked up on gas, propane, food and water but I did go out yesterday and it is just crazy how people act when things get a little hairy.

There is always next time  cooldude
