A local (non-Valkyrie) rider friend of mine told me recently that a track day under the auspices of an approved motorcycle school can count as defensive driving, and will go toward ticket remediation if done correctly. He sent the following information, which was provided to him by RideSmart Motorcycle School (I can neither confirm nor deny, just repeating what I was told):
REQUIREMENTS TO COMPLETE COURSE AND RECEIVE CERTIFICATE
1. Attend RideSmart Motorcycle School event as registered in Level
1 (Novice) or Level 2 (Intermediate). Level 3 only provides a certificate if you take the ARC class. You must notify us prior to the event you want to take the class and receive the certificate.
2. Attend 100% of classroom session (Six 20-30 minute sessions).
3. Ride 80% of the on-track sessions.
4. Do not “run-off” the track the entire day.
5. Do not crash (handlebar touches the ground) at any time during the day.
Ride Smart Motorcycle School is approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety as a provider of Motorcycle Instruction under the Transportation Code, Chapter 662.
License Number: 090036
PRIOR APPROVAL BY THE COURT MAY BE NECESSARY. Some courts are not familiar with the DPS approved courses and may only be familiar with TEA approved courses. Information and links below may help the court with approval.
