Well I have one of two of the NEW Viking Bags I just got installed and while they are a nice size appear to have great build and value I was not happy that the bags did not come in the way they are pictured on the site.

On the site the bag opens like a factory Honda bag rear to front which is fairly important on this bike since bags that flip up towards the seat hit on the hideously large grab rails. I will most likely have to modify or build something down the road to replace the grab handles yet still allow the use of the saddlebag mounts and backrest for the wife.

The highway pegs are just awesome, they were on my Goldwing but after touching down with the pegs that came on the bike I decided these would work better for ground clearance.

After seeing your pics of the Viking Bags I went to their website. Wow, they are nice quality at such a low price, the hard bags covered in leather @ $399 a super bargain. That's 1/2 of list price of the OEM bags, and yours for $120. It looks like they would bolt to OEM bag mounts. I'm thinking of selling my OEM bags for $400 and getting those hard bags.

Yes they will bow to the factory brackets. Like stated the only issue with these is that they open into the graph handles rather than towards the front of the bike.

Those are the bags that I have on mine. They are pretty much universal. The most important thing which I believe they no longer sell are the ones with the shock cutouts. I have a set of those that I pulled off the bike and replaced with these.

Just finished the other bag tonight and everything is all snugged up.

Theses bags have a fairly solid back so all you would need to do is line them up on the factory supports and mark the bags for holes and then bolt them to the original mounts.

These are the ones I purchased. They are the BIGGEST they sell for our bike as far as I could tell.

Thanks, now just a couple of questions, I see on the right side you just have the mounting bracket but on the left side it looks like you have a frame attached to the bag, it doesn't look like the included hardware and it doesn't look like the OEM stay so did you make it or did you get the quick disconnect for the bags? Would it be simpler to get an OEM stay and attach it to that VS using the included hardware?

Okay,

When I purchased this bike it came with a smaller set of Viking Bags and the previous owner had Brushed stainless fillers made to fill the visible gap when I stalled. I just reused those with the new bags.  Actually the the mounting hardware pictured on the left and right bags was just transferred from the old bags to the new bags.

If I was not married to an actual accountant I would spend the money for the FACTORY stays since the bags will be much more solid. These are good but factory stays will make it better. The only thing I would worry about in that scenario would be alignment using those. These bags FiLL the area between the passenger pegs and rear blinkers. Just enough room that my wife's legs do not rub nor do the blinkers.

Out of stock of everything? They couldn't talk you into another style and throw you a bone?

There is no real other option as far as the Viking bags are concerned. These are the largest bags that they offer to fill the lines of our bike. Not to mention they do not have the shock cut out for the 1500 Valkyrie.

What I find odd is that they would not take his order with the intentions of shipping later. They have been running lots and lots of sales lately.

These are the exact same dimensions except a bit wider, I just need to look and see if they will fit the bike.

I ordered the hardware a week and a half ago and had my honda guy look into seeing if he could get the bags cheaper. No deal with the bags but I got the hardware in last Thursday and installed it over the weekend. I also ordered the bags last Friday(extra 10% off right now BTW) and its supposed to be here this Friday. will post finial pics later.

For those who are just starting to add things to their bike I recommend the bags first not last like I did. I had to remove my Leatherlyke trunk, seat, passenger floorboards, the side covers and the lower side covers(the ones bolted on behind the passenger pegs) and the lugage carrier to install the brackets and stays. basically I had to remove everything I had installed plus some.

Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the bags. I am looking mine other than the opening at the top could be wider. Which they would be if they opened like the ones pictured when I ordered. At least that is what I think anyway.

I will probably get the factory brackets down the road since they will make for a much sturdier mount.

I got the same bags as you did, by the time I ordered them they had them back in stock so the only difference between you and I will be mine will mount to the OEM stays on a blue bike.

THEY CAME!!!!!

Dragunslayer it looks like the piece that attached the lid to the body is set flush with your fillers, I'm looking at drilling into that piece (required for the placement of the threaded holes on the OEM stays) and that looks like it will allow the lid to clear the handles. I should have pics up on Sunday if i get them on this weekend.

The bags are actually set a fair amount higher than the fillers. The back flap of the lid is flexible enough that it allows the lid to be opened fully, but it has to be held open while loading and unloading.

As promised here are the Viking Trianon Bags mounted on the OEM stays. They are a bit wider but very roomie, I used Hondas mounting hardware they sent with the stays and it worked ok except the upper bolts where I drilled through the attachment piece for the lid were too short to start so I had to run out and buy 30mm long M6X1 bolts. Also don't drill the bags matching like Viking suggests. I have noticed Honda likes to make left and right parts slightly different so you need to mark and drill each bag individually or they wont match up. They do still hit the grab rails but not too bad. Had you not mentioned it I wouldn't have thought to include it.

Looks good, I am happy with these bags especially when you consider the savings over the factory bags and the fact that they can be locked.
