Hello, a couple of months ago I bought a 2000 Valkyrie Interstate with 45k miles on it. So far everything seems o.k. except I have a question about a clutch noise that maybe some of you may have an idea about. When the bike is in neutral and I release the clutch lever it make a sound just like when a fan turns on a radiator. Should I be concerned or is this normal.

Thanks for you thoughts

It should quiet down when you pull the lever in. Not sure I am understanding what you are saying.

oops, I'm sorry. I wrote it wrong. Yes when in neutral and I release the clutch lever it make a sound like a radiator fan coming on. When I pull the clutch lever in the sound will quit.

Normal  cooldude it kind of sounds like a growling/ grinding when in neutral and when you pull the lever it stops.

What you are hearing with the clutch out/engaged and in neutral is the transmission gears turning even though it is not in gear. Pull the clutch in and it disengages the clutch and the transmission gears stop turning. This is normal and not a cause for concern. cooldude

as the guys say. when you let go the clutch lever while on neutral, the whole transmission is spining freely. BUT it should not be as loud as a radiator fan  Roll Eyes , most bikes i've had do this but again, is a quiet noise that you can barely notice

My standard 97 can be heard pretty good and has been that way since new my IS 99 can be heard but not nearly as noticeable as the standard.

Thanks for the info guys. It is appreciated.  Makes me feel a little better. I was afraid I in for some clutch work which is probably pretty expensive.
