After several seconds the engine sounds quieter. Its weird, I don't here any rattle or nocking, it just quiets up after the oil circulates. I think that's what your getting at?

Adrian what kind of noise are you looking to verify? Mine sounds like normal sometimes there is a tick for a few seconds but it goes away.

That is precisely what I hear...I guess it is normal...the Honda dude told me it was.

Oil flow getting through all the motor. Sounds normal. I cringe when people start their bikes and immediatly rev it up. Thats when the no no magic eats your motor alive.

OK I was at the track a few times and what I noticed is at about 115 for a bit the exhaust note changes. Its noticeably louder either at idle or just cruising along. The sound goes away after a bit or when you shut it off and restart but its definitely there. The first time I heard it I thought I was hearing things then the same thing happened after this track run. Anyone else heard this exhaust change of note? I wonder if there is some kind of timing adjustment or something when you are pushing it?

A sound like... marbles in a far away blender? Sand being blown off surfaces
by the radiator fan? Goes away quickly...

At the track huh   angel I can verify a timing change at 125mph where ECM shuts the bike off/on/off as I keep trying to push it faster but NO JOY GHOSTRIDER uglystupid2

Not sure. There is someone who cannot reflash the ECM/U whatever they call it..  Allows for more fuel in all gears, no timing retardation in first and second gear...increase the rev limited by 500rpms...and eliminate the top speed limiter as well... I will wait for the warranty to expire before I do this...

It doesn't only require tech skills but a computer with the OEM Honda program on it or a aftermarket that can adjust these parameters. It also requires knowing what the best adjustment would be. Its not easy and tuners can make a lot of money. The Ghul company does do reprogramming and its pretty cheap at 350.00. But like Adrian said I will wait till the warranty is out. I don't want to part with the bike for the time it takes and honestly all the adjustments may make it more to my liking, but none are going to be earth shaking. The other thing I heard he does which I would like is take the high cold idle off also.

Lets see what this baby can really do!!!
Someone needed who can reflash - Allow for more fuel in all gears, no timing retardation in first and second gear...increase the rev limited by 500rpms...and eliminate the top speed limiter as well...

Fook the warranty, I'd be all over this in a heart beat!  cooldude

IMHO - yes the bike is pretty fast - but that is subjective. Before I bought my Valk I was riding a Kawasaki C14, before that a Kawasaki ZX14.

Again, IMHO - as is, the bike is JUST fast enough.
My favorite thing about the Valk, (as it sits) it's a great ride, ride it hard or easy!  cooldude

Hey dude...GO FOR IT!  GUHL motors...their all over the web.  Brain dead man.  Remove the seat, unplug the unit, unstrap the bungie cord that holds it in place...  Mail the unit to them...have it back freight paid (by them) in a day or so.  Reinstall.  LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!  Some other person on here did it...and then was queried about their feelings...and that person went away.   Have it done and let us know!  Pllzzzz....

Yes, the bike IS fast enough....but without getting TOO greedy...one would think that there is some more ponies to be had for such a large, well balanced engine.  I can *feel* the timing retardation in first and second gear.  It is obvious.  Just note how different the bike feels in 3-5th gear.

I'm flattered by the mention but in this case there isn't anything I can do. The limiter isn't mechanical, it is computer based. I don't have the equipment to interface with the ECM and I wouldn't even know where to start on how to read Honda's code.

Truth be told, I also don't have a desire to go that fast! I hit 115 MPH on the bike and that was fast enough. There is no road I would feel 100% comfortable on around here at +100 speeds.

I have only hit 100+mph once just to see how fast it could get there.........WOW......   most roads are good for like 80 or so but get way to rough to be at 100....... when the bike can do 80 right at shift point to 4th I see no reason to dought that 140 would be possible but why push it . When the VTX first came out I road one in southern Colorado and hit 120 and the bike would almost go air born over the hilly country roads, scared me so I bought a 850 Suzukie bake in 1980 had that bike till I got the 1992 VTX 1300 then saw a Valkyrie, found one in Crystal Lake  thought that would be my last bike I would ever have to buy.......but then Honda brought the Valkyrie back and when I test road one WOW had to have one even though it ment I had to sell the VTX  and the 1998 Val. But now I know THIS  bike will out live me.... and my son says well Dad when you cant ride anymore I'll take it ....... I said don't hold your breath I have many many years to go before I call it           ride safe life is good especially on a Valkyrie.......

There is a way to figger top speed by RPM, gear ratio and tire size, something like that, but it is above my pay grade, any mechanical engineers with us? What rpm does it cut out at in high gear? Or at what speed and RPM does it cut out?
