We could get this to 7 pages if everyone sent in their pictures of the ride itself, picked on John a bit more about parts falling off his HD Valkyrie or maybe talking about how we could get this to 7 pages.

Considering the Walkyrie has been replaced by a cane, I'm all for retiring the "Dave Down" thread!  Really wish it had never had to be started...

Nac was great.  Even in a cage.  Janet and I have been thinking about a future Friday ride-out to a quaint little motel somewhere near there, a full day of East Texas riding on Saturday, and a return home on Sunday.  Something to think about.

And...  If we all get together sooner than Early Bird's Mid-Winter Gathering (I'm certainly planning on that (any other DWFers?)), and it's sometime later than Thanksgiving, I might even be able to get there on two wheels.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't a certain yellow Valk lose a foot peg on the Valhalla Voyage?

Don't feel bad John, I made it home after the last group ride on the back of a tow truck after the pinion cup decided to let the driveshaft just spin around inside of it.  I'd much rather have a part or two fall off than sit on the side of the road for a few hours with a broken bike.  Besides, I could have bought a lot of replacement bling for what it cost me to get home that day.

Most Harley riders make it back home with all their parts.  It's just that some of them are in the saddlebags after they fell off from their original location..........

Here's my take.  When we made the right turn onto 21 after lunch and saw everyone stopped / stopping / pulling off the road into the parking lot / off their bikes and walking toward the street, my first fear was that someone had gone down.  What a relief to know that it was only a failed fastener.

Thanks again, John, for suggesting the route from Edom to Nacogdoches.  I can't wait to retrace the route on my Yellow & Black & Chrome Valkyrie.

With that out of the way, let's get back toward things like when are we meeting in East Texas again?  Next fall when the leaves are changing?  When are we meeting "In The Middle" again?

YES, PLEASE, let's do this again this year!

Especially since I had to miss the first one!   :'(

But I was a bit busy...

Rebuilt my leaking fork again (finally), and put in new steering bearings while I had it apart.

Took care of the low speed handling quirks, but the other one I felt turned out to be a nail in the back tire.  tickedoff

Oh, well, now I have the opportunity to go to the darkside!!!  Evil

Not exactly "middle" (of DFW/HOU), now is it?  (:

I like the idea of Crockett.  Very middle-ish, and could be a good ride for both groups.
What does everyone think?
(if you know of restaurants in Crockett, now would be the right time to speak up.  If you don't, we'll find something.  I'm sure they have a reasonable place.)

When I was deer hunting in Lovelady, I always looked for an excuse to run the 17 miles up to Crockett, then I just HAD to eat at the Brass Lantern. It's on the east side, on the loop just north of Wal-Mart. Home style cooking, buffet with desserts! Not real big, so we'd probably fill it.

When I first went up there and asked at a convenience store for somewhere for lunch, 4 of the 5 customers all said "THE BRASS LANTERN!!", so I went. That's all it took.

I don't recall having seen much else there. There were a few smaller places downtown that might be good for a smaller group passing through.

In fact, dreaming of routes too, I'd offer suggestions of HWY-146 all the way to Livingston, then 190 to Onalaska, FM-356 to Trinity, and SR 19 to Crockett. Pretty much my route to hunt, I just took 59 to Livingston.

Or optional, from Dayton, take FM-321 to Cleveland, FM-2025 to Coldsprings, SR-156 to Point Blank, then either SR-190 to Onalaska on the first route, or FM-980 to Riverside, and SR-190 to Crockett.

I'm not sounding too eager am I???  Grin

Well, since I had to pass on them  tickedoff I didn't want to look too much. But I remember there were usually two large trays of cobbler, and a cake or two, sometimes pies...

And always got a good laugh with my wife (from Mexico), if it happened to get quiet enough, we could hear the Spanish music playing in the kitchen. I won't say "undocumented workers", but even in the middle of the East Texas woods now... But it was all good.

Very cool John, good to hear you got it back together. cooldude

A couple of months ago I was heading home from Minna-so-ta, and I was trying to make time.
Anyhow, it was dark and I was fifty miles from the Missouri border. I really wanted to get to Missouri, to call it a night....very little traffic on the road....deer crossing signs all over...I kept seeing shadows to my right. I was getting a little spooked thinking a deer was about to jump out at me....When I got to the motel I noticed the bottom bolt came out on my Air Wings. It was the Air Wing flapping in the wind...good thing the top on held.
The next morning I put a tie-wrap in place of the bottom bolt. This whole thing has reminded me that I never fixed it….still riding on a tie-wrap….

Had the same thing happen to my AirWing a few months ago. It must be the NUTS on the accessories that we install on our bikes. Usually the most troublesome nut on my bike is the one that connects the handlebar to the seat.  uglystupid22funny
