To start this thread - YES I ALWAYS CHECK AIR PRESSURE! Original Dunflops went 6,500 with the front literally lumpy And starting to wobble -- not cool! However the back tire probably had 1000 left. Changed both tires went with Avon as that is what I always run on the 1500s. Current mileage 11,740 Second Back tire shot, toast, looks really bad like it was not made with the correct compound or correct cure, (if this is the correct terminology) now the opposite, the front tire looks to have 2000+ left. What the flap?! This is sad Folks.

11K out of the back tire is really good by my thinking. Most of the time the rear is at 8 to 10 for me. As for the wear pattern on the tire itself that is what I see all the time on my tires. Its like little ridges or scrubbing on the rubber. It almost looks like they scuff up and you would think its a defective tire. But I have looked at the new barely worn and the one ready to take off and have noticed that same pattern. I can only reason at this point that although it doesn't look right its ok and normal wear. Although I have never seen tires show these type of patterns before.

He wore out the OEM, and an Avon in 11K... A long story caused my bike to have an inappropriate tire on it when I bought it new from a dealer. Tire 1 - 2k Tire 2 ~ 4.5K Michelin PR4 Tire 3 ~ 4.5K Pirelli Angel GT Tire 4 - an Avon like Sheffjs has... I've been on a few short rides since I took this picture: I spoke to the Avon man (Mark Wagoner, Warranty/Tech support) and he recommended these pressures for an 1800 Valkyrie and the Avons I have (AV80, AV71)... 34-38 Front 38-40 rear That's what I'm doing. -Mike

Must be that hot asphalt you guys have. I just changed my OEM Dunlops at 22000kms (14000 mi) and I still had a little left, but decided to change them out during the winter. Maybe I just got a pair of the good ones, or our asphalt is easier on our tires.

For me, I don't think it is the temperature of the asphalt, rather the kind of asphalt... I've been riding these roads to work for a couple of years now, and I've begun to notice that my 1500 rear tire is wearing faster than what I'm used to... I could go back to riding the old way - through the ever increasing sprawl from Clemson - but... nahh -Mike

Was able to get a decent pic of the front tire wear that I was talking about. I am going to change it when I get the time. I already have another tire waiting its just I have been so busy that I have not had the time. I run 42 psi in rear 38 to 40 front This front tire was on the bike for about 15k miles so that was pretty good the rears are usually around 8k. But I tell you its so nice to change the tires on this bike as compared to the 1500. I know the fronts are almost the same but the front still seems easier on this bike. I have not been easy on this tire as you can see but it has done well. But I may consider the Pirelli next, since I already have another Michelin waiting. .JPG) I dont understand how they could look so much different than new This is a before and after pic of this same tire. .JPG)

did u use a digital pressure gas which can be made to self-calibrate to atmospheric changes? a pencil or dial gauge are very inaccurate (can be off 5-10psi) unless calibrated for atmospheric conditions of that day. I use the top rated http://www.accutiregauge.com/digital-tire-pressure-gauge/accutire-ms-4400b-digital-tire-gauge/ all of the time. Just removed an E3 with balancing beads that lasted 24k miles from my '98 Valkyrie.

Hey did you send us to that site to meet Joanna I dont know how you do it I also balance the front tire and have tire beads in mine. Maybe if I would be a bit easier I could get closer to your mileage but I have a blast on the turns. My gauge is also digital and auto corrects when you turn it on.

Okay I am going to be the normal ass I usually am when it comes to tires and ask what Avon tire that is and then I will tell you what I believe to be the issue is once I know that info.

I do not know what brand or series of tire this is, but if this is one of those AV80 tires i would say you got awesome mileage out of a tire that is actually designed for possibly a 400-600 pound bike with half the torque of the Valkyrie. The tire in my opinion looks just as it should since the compound on those tires are designed to heat up more than a standard street tire for grip on a SPORTBIKE which this is bike is not. Below are my tires from my CBR1000 after about 15 minutes on the track.

I would also add that riding style, type of pavement as well as pressure all effect tires as most people know.
Now if your tire was showing a BLUE hue to the edge/sidewalk then I would say you were over heating the tire. If that was the case the seat of the pants

I should have been clearer it was an E3 rear tire. with 5 pulls on the dyno also. from your pictures of the tire thread I think your using the incorrect tire pressure. see Dragunslayers pics and research both online and how pressures affect those thread conditions.
