My bud has a cobra light bar we are trying to get to work. Sounds like the positive wire from the switch is not connected. Lights work when applied to a hot source. Anyone have a diagram on how this is to be wired up? Also I read somewhere where a relay should be used to avoid a draw on the starter switch. Am I correct? If so we already have a 40-50amp relay connected under the side cover hooked up to a aux fuse panel. Can we just go ahead and hook it to the panel?

Sounds like you have a bad switch...I have a 99 CT and it has the Cobra Lightbar...It is wired where the power goes to the switch ( the one on the Lightbar ) and the ground goes back to the (-) side of the power...You can put an in line fuse on the hot (+) side going to the switch...I Always turn my Lightbar off before I start my bike, thus not drawing the amps when she cranks...Then I turn the Lightbar on if I want to...!!! Hope this helps...!!!

Those switches are about $4 at Autozone. The power wire goes to one terminal and the othe terminal goes to the two lights. The other side of the lights goes to ground. If you have an aux fuse panel, use it to take the power load off the start button.

That's what I was thinking to do. Do you know how many amp fuse I should use?

There's probably a good diagram to go by over at rattlebars too...

The standard lamps are 30 watts each. You can use a 7.5 or 10 amp fuse. I have 36 watt halogens in my Cobra light bar and use a 10 amp.

I have a Cobra lightbar and something funny happened to me.

I slid the bar down on the fork tubes to get the lights to line up with the bottom of the main headlight, and all of a sudden they didn't work! I didn't touch any wiring, just loosened the clamp and slid down.

Turns out the bar grounds itself not through a wire but coming in contact with something metal. In my case there was a bar metal piece tucked up there.

I slid the bar back up to be in contact with the metal piece and they worked again.

Maybe what you are dealing with.

Hope this helps.

You definitely want to put in a relay. Also as mentioned they do ground thru clamp at forks. I had mine powder coated so I ran seperate wires from lights to a bolt. I believe I used screw in head light housing
