Please Post your results and reviews of the tires you have tried for the Valkyries. We need to find tires that last and handle well. I thought of this thread so we have resource of tires that have been tried on the Valk and we can reference them.

I use and have had good results with the combo of the Michelin PR4 trail 120/70/19 on front and the PR4 GT in a 180/55/17 on the rear we all know this tire so there is not much more to add except the stock and these are a comparison base line. Hopefully we will get everyone to add to this post and maybe get it hooked on to the top as permanent.

Ordered them from Bike Bandit but Chapperal had them about 5.00 cheaper.

Rear tire 1: ersatz Dunlop 190, ~2,000 miles. (dealer put wrong tire on my new bike)

Rear tire 2: PR4 GT, ~5,000 miles

Rear tire 3: Pirelli Angel GT spec A, ~4,500 miles

Rear tire 4: Avon AV81, ~1,600 miles

Rear tire 5: PR4 GT, brand new now

I have an Avon AV71 on the front now, I like it, it doesn't seem to be wearing too fast,
we'll see.

Avon front good as Mike said.  Avon back = 5,200 and she was done.

- I bought a rear Roadtec 01 when I reached 30.000 mls and I still have it (bike has 40.400 mls on the clock). The Metzeler is still OK though square.
- I got a front Pirelli Scorpion Trail II at 36.000 mls, the PR4 trail was still fine but I was curious and wanted to test the champion by myself. Definitely the best imho.

I'm bewildered that you call a tire that achieved 15,000 (rear) and 22,000 miles (front) crap! So I'm thinking that it would have to be some other reason(s). Why would you leave the tire on for so long?

@goldstar : I'm skinflint ! OEM Dunlop is crap : even on dry roads, you can't speed up with so much joy you may have. And on wet roads, I had to be really careful with the throttle even on straight roads and after a while (a year in fact), I decided that enough was enough !
With the Metzeler on the rear, I don't have these skids anymore, even on wet roads.

 Ledany, I figured as much! I thought that I'd let you say that.  I'm thrifty as well, but even though I had no problem scraping the pegs in the dry, the wet performance wasn't quite there. I was on the fence about changing the tires with still usable tread left. Finally giving in at ~9000 mi. Going to try the Avon AV80 ( I purchased 2 at $75 each) and if I only get 5 or 6000 mi. each tire that's 10,000 mi. for $150! That's being thrifty!

The Shinko is really not a bad tire for the money, but without ABS I need all the help I can get.
I would hate to say, "I saved $75.00 on my tire purchase but cost $7,000.00 to repair the bike when I crashed".

I agree, that's why I don't mind to pay (a little) more, knowing I have the best tires money can get (plus the fact that my tires last so long).

Besides, the ABS on the Valk is not really necessary, I never felt it on the front wheel but sometimes on the rear, for nothing.

I paid $75 for a tire that originally cost $190, so I think I'll be alright.

Man I simply cannot believe it.  Many of you guys are reporting only-4-5K on the rear of a Michelin? I have that on mine already(around 4k) and there is plenty of tread left...wait, let me go out in the garage and check....brb...yeah, well let me rephrase, I would say a decent amount of tread.  Note the pic.  I do ride aggressively at time as well!

Based on our rims - what is the "range" of tire sizes that fit:

19" front X ?

17" back X ?

I just ordered some Mich Pwr Cmdr II's that were the same spec as OEM.

But I notice some of you are running sizes outside the OEM exact spec.

The fronts listed seem to work well the rear its easy to find OEM sizes.

The rear is NOT a 18" though its 17"

This is the reason for this post and tire trying to see if any tire is any better in any area than another tire.

Looks like the Metzlers are lasting the longest. I have the Michelins with 1200 miles. I hope they last longer than 5000

Ha, this does look like a possible future purchase.  I was looking at the specs and it appears this would work great with our Valks.  I didn't notice if they had the right front tire and must assume they do not.  Pricing is about the same.  I had Metzler Marathons on my old bike and they last a good long time.

**did just look and they only have the 120/70-19 like the Michelin, but it does not have the HWM rating...  Looks like you'd have to match it with the Michelin front tire.

Keep in mind, that ledany weighs a buck forty, and commutes. I weigh slightly more than twice that and I am heavy on the throttle! He posts the highest mileage no matter what tires he sports. He reported high mileage for the OEM tires! Food (tires) for thought.

Good point,  but if memory serves correctly he said he did at one point have Michelin's on and got about the same mileage as we all do.

Since I always see other vendors I am going to throw this out there again and say that you all owe it to your pocket book to check here for tires when making your purchase. I have found 9 out 10 times they are the cheapest with FREE SHIPPING!!!
