First off, let me say I have no issue with people that don't want to eat meat. But some of them strike me as odd. On occasion they will come up to me and tell me how terrible meat is. Today a lady came up to the counter looking for something. I asked her if I could help her. She said no, she was a vegan and how healthy she was since giving up meat. I said that was good and went back to filling the case. She continued to follow me telling me how meat was bad for people and the environment. After a few minutes of this the smartass in me started to come out. I told her in my best British accent "If you don't eat your meat you can't have any pudding, how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat". She got a blank look on her face and turned and walked away. Along with not being a fan of meat, I don't think she cares for Pink Floyd either.

Vegans don't eat any animal products, I don't eat meat, I do eat wild deep water fish. Vegans and some vegetarians can be a pain, like someone that just quit smoking. Now suddenly everyone that smokes is evil. OCB!!

My youngest for whatever reason became one!! She grew up eating like the family always did, a meat and potatoes family. Then she moved away like most kids do. When she returned my wife fixed a big meal for us all. Big roast, taters, and all the fixins.
My daughter then announced she was a vegan and please pass the salad. WTH, the salad! A meal like this and you are going to eat the salad only?! Yup she said. "I don't eat anything with a face"! I kinda blew it I guess when I said: "well, mom made a nice apple pie for desert are you going to eat any of that"? No she said, I gave up deserts. "Well I said, I guess you can go out and graze in the front yard for your desert when you finish your salad".
She hasn't eaten a meal at home since that time. She says I don't understand? What's to understand? She isn't my kid and her real dad is Uhle Gibbons?

I have known several Vegan’s and noticed they tend to go over the top on their health choice and opinions. They almost act like recovering addicts! Not so much with Vegetarians’, they stay pretty normal. Myself I don’t eat meat and keep the gluten to a minimal. I just try and eat healthy and what I think is good for me, nearly all the members in my family are physical train wrecks, and take allot of medications. I take little to none” I ride my bicycle 20 miles a day and will be hitting the big 7-0 just up the road. Now I have a few aches and pains, but on the most part it is no problem. When I go I want to go fast, not a slow painful death, so that is why I eat the way I do, I am Not a Vegan, or do I graze on the front lawn. And I eat pleanty! Something I notice on this board, when a subject comes up and it seems that some people are different; various people here kind of gang up on them or their life styles and appear to taunt their choices. I myself love burgers, ribs, hot dogs, but the preservatives, chemicals, antibiotics, and growth hormones and so on, I do have concerns with. But if you like chemically infused food, that is your choice, myself I want to eat a little cleaner. Let me ask a question! In all the power eaters, how many have had health issues, joint replaced, cancers, and diabetes, compared to the healthier eaters. I am not suggesting that healthy eating is a guarantee to a perfect life, all the thing that happen to us is a result of a choice we made in the past. Nothing in life happens for no reason, it is generally always the result of your choices, and some genetics. Just my observation!!

Well, I didn't intend this to be a bashing. I just thought it strange how someone who wasn't going to purchase any meat products would come and stand in front of the meat case looking. Also, I was pretty pleased with myself for pulling out the Pink Floyd reference so quickly. Now, as far as the virtuousness of eating "healthy". I've eaten meats, butter, fats, etc. my entire life. No extra parts or replacements or rotorootering for me. Everyone should do what they see fit. But be warned. If you come in touting the greatness of not eating meat, I'm likely to throw some Pink Floyd at you.

I wouldn't call it bashing, but maybe over accentuating! I am not so concerns with meat and other foods, like veggies or other wise being bad for us, as much I am concerned of the crap they put on and in the foods for profit. I mean, come on our elders have been eating food that a Vegan would gag on, but in most cases the worst thing in their food was REAL salt, to preserve. It is the junk industry put in our food and tell us it is OK, because we don't drop where we stand. Health issues, basically boils down to, how much can you body tolerate before it breaks down, Some of us have better tolerance than others. So it don't seem to effect us and think we are good, give a peanut to some one that has the allergy, and see how fast is takes. I guess it amount to is, how much our bodies can take. Good talk!!

This thread has changed quite a bit as most do. I too am concerned about the 'cleanliness' of our food. I don't like all the junk that keeps being added to it, especially things like Glyphosate with its concerns about Alzheimers and autism. I find us looking more for organics.

This is, I guess, a departure or hijack of the butcher's original post but I have a question, a request for clarification. Above a comparison was made between vegans and vegetarians. I had always thought that vegan was just a preppy way of referring to vegetarians, essentially vegetarian with etaria removed.
What exactly is the perceived difference between a vegetarian and a vegan? ???

My understanding is, Vegetarians don't eat meat, but use some dairy products in foods, maybe not directly and Vegan don't use any animal products in any form. Preppy, Ya! I have seen it lean in that direction!

Also vegans don't eat meat or any animal by product, such as eggs from chickens or milk from cows, etc... Vegetarians will consume these. Also some fish.

A vegetarian doesn't eat anything an animal died for. A vegan doesn't eat anything an animal was inconvenienced for. (I.E. no cheese, dairy, honey, butter, eggs, Jello, etc. etc. etc.)

I don't want to put a stick in the spokes, but there is something else you have to consider if you choose to be a health eater. First thing is we are slave to out taste buds, that's sure. But consider the things around us and the things we breath in. What is in the lotions we put on our skin that get adsorbed, or the air fresheners we use and breath. That is also a factor, not just what we out in our mouths.

I used to think young neat thin vegan men were for sure light in the loafers. Until my daughter married one, became a vegetarian and had my grandson. At least they let him eat meat. But whenever they are dinner guests, what a PITA that causes with the menu. I think those with chosen dietary restrictions should always bring a dish when they come for dinner. I have more sympathy if the diet is for medical reasons.

Fer as I is concerned them animals did NOT die in vain-they taste Really good when cooked properly! And far as inconvenience to the animal-cows git down right testy when they don't git milked. While I'm Not a vegetarian or a vegan I had white mushrooms sliced tomatoes and fresh sliced cucumber with my turkey on rye sandwich last night. Slathered with mayo and shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Bruce-I gotz ta agree on da bacon thingy. Bacon and eggs in the A M burger fer lunch and B B Q ribs fer supper! RIDE SAFE.

Aren't our eyes still planted in the front of our faces ? That means we are predators. Predators are meat eaters. When my eyes move to the side of my head I might give giving up meat some consideration. Well, after some thought, Naaaa.

Taking the original post for what I interpreted it to be, I agree with the sentiment that if you believe in something...or for that matter don't believe in something (like eating meat or animal by-products), you have no right to force that opinion on others, or to degrade someone (such as an honest meat-cutter) if they follow a different path than you. This sentiment can apply to most other personal choices people make on how to live their lives...do what you feel is right for you but don't expect others to always agree, and certainly don't berate or preach to those who choose differently.
My youngest daughter was a vegetarian for about 10 years...a personal choice of hers, which my wife and I supported. In fact, we still today use many of her vegetarian recipes for dishes such as lasagna, etc that we actually prefer over ones that contain meat. Now that she is older, getting married, and hopeful to have kids, she has reverted back to eating meat as she feel better with the levels of protein a diet including meat provides... again, a choice that she has made for herself.
How boring life would be if everyone was just like me.....

They’re happy... because they eat butter! They also eat plenty of raw milk, cream, cheese, eggs, liver, meat, cod liver oil, seafood, and other nutrient-dense foods that have nourished generations of healthy people worldwide! https://www.westonaprice.org/https://www.westonaprice.org/?s=veganVeganThink: Dr. John McDougall Explains the Death of Steve Jobs Restoring Male Fertility a lot of this vegan/vegetarian diet including eating raw vegetables has a lot to do with population control, for those diets do not provide the essential nutrients needed for reproduction both sexes and healthy normal babies.
