Looking for a new battery, I am on Amazon where they have a 240 Amp cold cranking YAUSA ytx14h-bs for 72 to 75 dollars.

I'm getting this so when BigBF comes over this summer/fall he can slip this in place.

Once I add the acid will my battery tender be enough to charge it up or will I need something stronger?

Some say you need more than a trickle charger, that's all I use to initially charge mine and I don't have any problems doing it that way

Long as you do NOT put a charger on the new battery to SPEED charge it you should be good. I've got an old-Montgomery Wards-trickle charger that the Only options are 6 volt or 12 volt. I said it was old!  Roll Eyes Also have a battery maintainer and a newer one with a battery status read out. Once you install the acid go on ahead and put it on the maintainer. As a Guess leave on 48-72 hrs? Others most likely will chime in. RIDE SAFE.

It's when you've deeply discharged a battery and it has become resistant to a normal charge that you need a higher voltage (e.g. 20V) charger to overcome the battery's resistance to taking a charge.  When you do this, pay attention that you don't overheat the battery.  A new battery, either factory activated, or sold with the acid in a bottle to be added by the purchaser, should charge fine with a low current charger.

I just ordered one of these for my IS;

A lot cheaper than the YUASA and I've heard nothing but good things about them.  Time will tell.

I have had good luck with owner added acid Yuasa batteries from Amazon. USA made and was $65 with free shipping. I used the car battery charger to bring it up close and follow the directions for time. I then used the Battery Tender to finish it off. Using just your battery tender may overload it to the point where it is damaged or worst, catches fire. They do get really hot when used on a low battery. One caught fire here locally that got out of hand and caught the house on fire. You can buy a battery charger now fairly cheap at Harbor freight. FYI ,I bought one of their Centech battery tenders for about $9 on sale. So far not issues with it, use it in the other garage on the trike.

I just used the vehicle checker in the upper left corner (product page) and it indicates this battery will NOT fit my 97 standard.
WUWT?
Has anybody actually installed this battery in a Valk?

Just checked their website (Chrome Battery) and the only 97 Valk listed is the Tourer, so it should fit, yeah? ???

Hey BG, it's a YTX14-BS battery, that is what fits our Valks, all of them.  If you want to wait the one I ordered should be here in a couple of days and I'll let you know if I have any issues installing it.

My Yuasas came with directions saying what amps to charge with initially.  Cannot remember erxactly, but it was higher than my Battery Tender Juniors.  So I used my car charger (on a low setting).  The BT may be enough if you leave it on until it goes green on the LED.  But that is not following the directions.

Also, they are very clear, once you initially add the acid, you are to leave the acid holes open to the air for one to two hours, before any charging.

All the Valks use the same battery so one for a Tourer will fit a Standard will fit an Interstate.

The Chrome battery arrived today, as expected it is the same dimensions of every other YTX14-BS battery in existence.  I plugged it into my battery charger and the LED instantly turned green, hit the test button on top and it showed 100% charged.  I'll be installing it as soon as I get off work.

IIRC it's 6 or 8 amps on the initial charge.  I have an old-school powerful charger from NAPA that you set the power and the time - not automatic at all.  It runs up to 250 amps.  This charger is great for bringing back a sulfated battery. Anyhow I always do the initial charge per the docs with the battery. I buy the YUASA batteries w/o the acid inside, and add it myself when prepping the battery for install.

You can find 6 amp automatic chargers at any parts store.  I have several of them.

The instructions on the Chrome Pro battery was "Direct Install".  If it sits on 'my' shelf for more than 3 months I should put it on a trickle charger.  I put it on a charger out of habit and it didn't need it, came out of the box 100% charged and ready.

At $44 and free delivery if I just get two years out of it I'll be thrilled.
